I was given this book as a present. The first part outlines the beauty regime women in the 1930s followed, with Pond's Cold Cream as the main beauty cream, and the exercise people took and performed before there were gyms... It's fascinating. The next part is mostly really useful tips on cleaning. These are very helpful and shows you how to use bicarbonate of soda (something Id read about before but not used) to clean chopping boards etc, and white wine vinegar (ideal for wine stains on the carpet). The book is very funny too - Daphne tries out the beauty regime that was recommended to her Maw, and finds it takes her 24 hours to do. There is whole section on stains and how to remove them, and tips on sewing. I found out, for example, how to freshen up my flask with baking soda - a lot more effective than leaving it with washing up liquid inside it. There is also a funny (but useful) section on the meaning of flowers, and it's full - of course - with the Broons' strips. I sent a copy to a friend in France, who loved its 'antique' feel!
It's a very interesting book, and I've referred to it several times.
