The whole family can share Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 11--registration involves telling Mavis your age, words per minute typing goal and a few other details. Lessons will then be tailored to meet individual requirements. Tuition opens with an assessment test, or you can choose to start as a beginner. From there you can follow a lesson plan which includes typing practice and speed test or make up your own lessons. Much of the time is spent copying words on screen, so they are made interesting and useful--relatively dry stuff like the 500 most used word and the 500 most mistyped words sit alongside other text and you can import your own too. There are also dictation lessons.

Typing Session Scheduler: allows the user to schedule a time with Mavis on a daily or weekly basis to practice their typing skills. It will appear during (or after) the registration process but will also be accessible through another area of the program.

Progress Monitor: This feature monitors all typing activity on the user's system capturing information about what keys are used, their accuracy, and speed. It shows WPM/KPM and accuracy when the user requests it.

Practice Reminder: A pop-up screen reminding the user this is the time they reserved for typing practice.

Screen Saver: A screen saver with a Mavis Beacon theme.

Ergonomic Break Reminder: A pop-up screen giving hints and tips to the user to remind them of correct ergonomic typing potions and workstation set-up.

Finger Position Popup: The Finger Position key shows the user which finger to use for not only that key, but any finger/key combination they choose. It can also be placed on the bottom of the current application and constantly show the correct finger positions of the last key typed.

Mini-Mavis Custom Lesson: Analyses the information collected by the progress monitor and creates a lesson that drills the user on difficult keys.
