5.0 out of 5 stars Look no further 23 Sep 2010
My older daughter, 6 years old, bites her nail and my younger daughter, 2 years old had the habit of thumb sucking. We used Mavala for just a week and both have stopped their habits of sucking thumb and bitting their nails. Fantastic product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely disgusting- works a treat! 12 July 2012

So i left off writing this review for a month- just to see if it really really works. Warning- I've now become a nail-bore, having bought this bottle of nasty magic, invested in a nail file (recommend Leighton Denny large file bought on Amazon as well), I now gaze at my wonderful new nails, thinking why haven't i done this before?! So this product works because it is so incredibly unpleasant to taste- a little brush of my nail against my lips or mouth with this on- and I was spitting (no delicate way to put that- sorry!) for a while. Of course you get used to it, but it's still yuck enough to remind you not to get your fingers near your mouth. I used to bite them a lot while reading, and that combined with an increased commute and my Kindle meant they were chewed to the quick. Not attractive. The Mavala STOP is pretty (dare I say it) Mavala-s. Words of caution- pizza, wraps, even fruit must be eaten with care, and any food preparation approached with caution- nothing is finger lickin' good with this stuff on! Application is very easy- goes on clear, shiny when wet, almost matt when dry. I leave it on for 3 or 4 days before reapplying. It is exciting to have pretty nails - i started biting them when i was about 8, so don't remember the last time they looked nice. Must stop evangelising about this product now. Did I mention I'm a newly-born nail-bore?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 15 Jun 2011
By millie
Cannot believe it but after 5 years of thumb sucking my daughter has not sucked her thumb since the day we started using Marvala STOP.
Be warned it is disgusting and even when carefully applied I got some on my hand and it took a couple of days to get rid of it, the taste was on everything!!! We tried 4 other products which my daughter became accustomed to and even sucked them off!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective only if you can taste bitterness 23 Jan 2013
Disappointed customers should not be too hard on this product. A small proportion of humans are genetically disposed not to taste bitterness - I'm one. If you've never tasted bitterness and never thought about about it, you probably don't know you're a non-taster. Then if this product doesn't work for you, you think it is ineffective. Look at the majority of ***** votes, read what they say and you'll then realise that a lot of people find it disgusting and, therefore, an effective nail-biting deterrent. Some people have a low response to bitterness but can still taste it. They are the ones whose reviews underrate this product's effectiveness (by comparison with the ***** reviews) yet don't entirely damn it ... or they don't bother to write a review at all. Interesting, eh?

5.0 out of 5 stars I am cured! 31 July 2012

For the first time in my life, I actually have white margins above my pink nails. Pretty much through the entirety of my teenage life I've bitten my nails, most the time without knowing. My nails were just one more thing to be self-conscious about, and I made a conscious effort to hide my hands during social interactions.

I'm a tall male, so the thought of painting 'varnish' on my nails every day seemed a bit too...feminine. After much deliberation, I bit the bullet (pun mildly intended) and ordered this Mavala Nail Treatment. Firstly, do not be put off with the insanely small bottle you receive. I did. I thought "I paid £5.50 for this Alice-in-Wonderland sized bottle?" Luckily, though, I realised how slow it goes down. I also realised that while people would naturally paint their entire nail with this stuff, and waste 1/2 of the liquid on painting the bottom of my nail, all I needed to do was paint the very tips of my nail as that's the part we actually bite. No one bites the bottom on their nails. With such a small dosage to work with, every bit of savings count.

I've been using Mavala for about a month now, and I've just reached half way. My nails are fully grown and I have no temptations to bite them (even when I don't apply to varnish). My only worry now is learning how to cut them probably. Eek.

Lastly, word to the wise, this stuff tastes absolutely horrible. Which is exactly what you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars immediate results 12 Feb 2011

having kept my nails short all my life through biting them,i found that i was chewing them shorter and shorter,so i decided to do something about it.
having read the reviews i sent off for it and received it promptly. i excitedly read the instructions and although the instructions say apply at bedtime,i thought as the postman had made a special effort to deliver the post early that day,1.00pm,i applied it immediately. what a mistake that was!
using it has involved me in incurring extra expense and forced life changing habits on me.
for my evening meal that day i ate chicken using my fingers. another bad mistake! a foul numbing taste hit the roof of my mouth. i had forgotten the newly applied mavala to my fingers.
some time later i had again forgotten about the mavala and attempted to extract the bits of chicken from between the ample gaps in my teeth using a combination of my tongue and finger. again i was immediately reminded what was on my fingers!
thats where the additional expense comes in. i had to purchase some cocktail sticks from the local supermarket to use as toothpicks,as i was mortified at the thought of putting my fingers in my mouth again.
my favourite method of eating yogurt is by dipping my forefinger in the pot and sucking the yogurt off my finger. that has had to change and whilst using mavala i have had to resort to using a spoon like the rest of humanity.
i watched a dvd the other evening with my 5 year old grandson sat on my knee cuddled into me. i was eating chips from the takeaway using my fingers. i popped a chip into his mouth and immediately after swallowing it he screwed his face up in disgust and said indignantly "granddad,i have a disgusting taste in my mouth, and it wont go away!
