Format: Paperback
Numerous books have been written about Cunard's beloved Mauretania of 1907, for 22 years the fastest ocean liner in the world. Time, technology and the Depression took their toll and in 1935 after 28 years of service, she was retired and sold for scrap.

Realizing that, because of the public's great affection for the ship, there were additional profits to be made, the scrappers who bought her held a public auction of her luxurious fittings and furniture at Southampton before sailing her to the breaker's yard in Scotland.

This fascinating book is unique in that its purpose is to trace the remnants of Mauretania that live on in various reincarnations throughout Great Britain. Much went to decorating private homes, some parts have ended up in museums but various items also went to public restaurants and most famously Pinewood Studios outside London. This book is filled with photos from both the original life of the ship and today's repurposing of many of its fine details.

Happy to see highlights of Mauretania alive today, I was enthralled from beginning to end by this truly unique book and am very happy to add it to my ocean liner library.
