Best guide to Maui, 18 April 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Maui Handbook: Including Molokai and Lanai (Moon Travel Handbooks) (Paperback)
The Maui Handbook is the best guide to Maui that I have seen. It not only provides all the maps, restaurant and tourist attractions you'd expect, but also goes off the beaten track, describing the history, culture and personality of the island. The author is clearly someone who likes to spend time getting to know a place, and it shows here. It is the one essential guide for anyone who wants to get out of the hotel and experience the real Maui.
As a bonus: the book is not too thick, so you can pack it in you pocket or backpack without weighing you down.

Our Number Two Maui Guide, 27 Jan 2001

Until Andrew Doughty's "Maui Revealed" was released, this Moon handbook was the best you could get. We used it on our first trip to Maui. Like other Moon Handbooks, it is rich in history and background info, but the practical detail can't compare to "Maui Revealed." We now use this Moon Handbook mainly as a supplement for historical background -- still useful but not our first source. (Most other Maui guides are superficial rubbish.)

Great book. We took this book on a trip to Maui in 1990,it had great ideas, suggestions. So when we returned in May, 2010 we took this edition with us, in addition to a newer book. It was amazing the places that were still in business, or in the same state as they were then! It was great fun to do a comparison of current info we found compared to what was there 20 years ago! The info was still surprisingly accurate! Of course we visited places like Paia, Hana, etc. D. Utz
