Don't know if this is an original victorian anonymous novel or a modern pastiche by a ghost writer. I suspect the latter. One never knows with Grove Press.
Whatever the case, it features an insipid heroine/ victim and her mustache-twirling guardian. This one is way too slowmoving. And the characterization? Oy Vay! I kept thinking Dudley Doright would show up to rescue Nell from the clutches of Snidely Whiplash.
