4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable light read 6 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
Richmal Crompton is best known for her children's stories, the 'Just William' series in particular. She is a gifted storyteller, and this is true in her books for adults as well. This light amusing tale is of an elderly (60!) relative who spends a month with each of her relations in order to see if she would like to live with them, and vice versa. She was known as 'Meddlesome Matty', and in each household, her meddling ends up making things better.

Whilst I enjoyed the book, my only critisism would be that it became a little repetitive - there is a 'loving tyrant' in each home who has to be overcome. Still, an enjoyable feel-good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB! Sparkling with wit and vivacity 11 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
Another sparkling gem by the talented Richmal Crompton. From beginning to end the whole book is an acute observation of human nature, its foibles and follies. Reading this book is like being taken on an adventure, observing events and characters along the way. An incredibly witty book which I'm sure Jane Austen herself would have appreciated if she had been able to read it. Thank you very much "Greyladies" for republishing another book by Richmal Crompton and please do publish some more.
