Matthew P. Mayo's books include the Western novels "Winters' War," "Wrong Town," and "Hot Lead, Cold Heart." In addition to writing novels and non-fiction books, essays, and articles, Matthew's short stories and poetry appear in a variety of anthologies, including two published by DAW Books. His short story, "Half a Pig," from the anthology, "A Fistful of Legends" published by Express Westerns, was nominated as a 2010 Spur Award Finalist by the Western Writers of America. His most recent book, "Bootleggers, Lobstermen & Lumberjacks: 50 of the Grittiest Moments in the History of Hardscrabble New England," is fast becoming a regional favorite. His next book, "Maine Icons: 50 Classic Symbols of the Pine Tree State," a collaboration with his wife, documentary photographer Jennifer Smith-Mayo, will be released in May, 2011.
Matthew is managing editor of "Big Sky Journal," a culture and lifestyle magazine of the Northern Rockies. He is an Eagle Scout, and member of Western Writers of America, Western Fictioneers, and the Maine Historical Society. Along with his wife, documentary photographer Jennifer Smith-Mayo, and two dogs, Guinness and Nessie, Matthew divides his time between the coast of Maine and the mountains of Montana.
