Product Description

Book Description
What medical science can do and what it ought to do - or ought not to - impinges upon our personal lives, our families and our society.

In this book, John Wyatt examines issues surrounding the beginning and end of life against the background of current medical-ethical thought. Writing out of a deep conviction that the Bible's view of our humanness points a way forward, he suggests how Christian healthcare professionals, lay people and churches can respond to the challenges and opportunities that confront us.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the definitive treatise on Christian medical ethics., 22 Mar 2000
By A Customer
Continuing on from the new insights that Professor Wyatt brought to the Contemporay Christianity series of lectures he has developed his thought to produce an outstanding book. This work is an invaluable resource for doctors or lay people struggling with the issues at the beginning and end of life. It is clear that Dr Wyatt is a commpassionate doctor struggling at the frontline of these problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 8 Dec 2006
By Roxoroxy (London, UK) - See all my reviews
If you are confused about Christian attitudes to bio-ethics read this brilliant book. Clearly and sensitively, with reference to empirical studies and philosophical debate, this book separates the great successes of modern medicine from its excesses.
A simple but insightful paradigm is developed to distinguish the two: human beings, says Wyatt, are liked flawed masterpieces. Rather than treat human beings as lego-kits, medics and scientists should preserve and restore us as an art curator would a masterpiece.
