Manufacturer's Description

Relatives visiting? Hosting a party? Stuck in an airport? Then it's time for Uno, the classic card game, which is quick to learn, easy to play and fun for all the family. The aim of the game is to be the first player to score 500 points, by getting rid of all the cards in your hand before your opponents. You score points for all the cards left in your opponents' hands. The rules of Uno are simple. Every player picks a card and the person who draws the highest number deals (Action Cards count as zero at this stage). Once the pack has been shuffled, each player is dealt 7 cards. The remainder of the deck is placed face down to form a DRAW pile. And the top card of the DRAW pile is turned over to start a DISCARD pile. The person to the left of the dealer starts play and has to match the card on the DISCARD pile, either by number or colour. So, if the card is a red 7, the player must put down a red card or any 7 card regardless of its colour. Alternatively, the player can put down a Wild Card. If the player doesn't have a card to match the one on the DISCARD pile, they must take a card from the DRAW pile. If this can be played, the player is free to put it down in the same turn. Otherwise, play moves on to the next person. Players may choose not to play a playable card from their hand. If so, they must draw a card from the DRAW pile. If playable, that card can be put down in the same turn, but the player may not use a card from the hand after the draw. Players race to get rid of their cards and the real fun starts when special Action Cards are used to foil opponents and gain an advantage. With the tension mounting, Uno becomes the fun family card game that's easy to pick up but impossible to put down.

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Uno you want this one..., 8 Jun 2005
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game rocks! It's a simple card game, with simple instructions (once you pick it up) and both cruel and hilarious. It's cheap and cheerful and worth every penny.

You have seven cards each - your objective is to match the card on the table - swapping the colour along the way - the first person to get down to one card needs to shout Uno to win, however once you rid yourself of all your cards the game is over. To make it harder, you can also play action cards to stop the next player if they're winning (or if you just want to lose a few cards). You can make players lose a turn, make the players play anticlockwise (or clockwise), or make the next player pick up more cards. You can also change the card colour.

This game is a right laugh to play - you need more than two players for it to become a real challenge, although two players does work fine. The instructions are a bit hard to understand so if you don't get it, make up your own rules (it's physically impossible to get to 500 points - especially with two players so we don't bother). You don't need to play by colour either, you can play by number or symbol (as seen on the action cards) as long as this rids you of cards, do what you need to do and you'll soon win! The set of cards are a little large too - over a hundred - so you'll need to split the pack to shuffle it properly.

Uno is a game that anyone of any age can play - however it requires a few practice games! But it's extremely fun and competitive so expect shouting and calls of "Uno!" from the living room. It also teaches children about numbers and colours - another bonus! I am definitely taking this on day trips and on holiday and introducing my mates to the wonder that is...

UNO!

PS - It's only a fiver, so it's not like it's costly. Go on, you know you wanna...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, vintage card game for all fun-lovin kids aged from 5 to 105!, 29 April 2007

I come from a family where card games have always been popular, although we concentrated on games using "standard" cards.
Although this game has been around for a long while, I only discovered it a couple of weeks ago when my visiting 8 years old niece introduced the game to my wife. They were having a jolly good time together.

I was gladly offered a position as a playing partner as Uno gets more interesting when 4, 5 or 6 people are playing together. On basis of this, we have added my parents and my kid sister on the roster. Since then, I have bought a game for my home and one for my parents (who now also play with their own friends.) Everybody who ever plays this game is bound to become a fan!

This great game mostly sees all the players, young and old, smiling or laughing.

The rules are simple enough for young kids to play, and it is entertaining for a whole family. I have seen it played by bright 5 year olds.

It is not expensive, durable and easy to carry around.

Although the results are largely determined by chance, there is that bit of strategy involved in using various "wild" cards to work in alliance against the leader. It also shows to kids that you can win and lose. Ultimately, the game teaches players to think ahead, to react quickly and to be aware of what's going on at all times.

It is also possible to add variants to the game, only depending on the players' imagination and inclination.

Unconditionally recommended to any card-playing enthusiast!

A great, vintage card game for all fun-loving kids aged from 5 to 105!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for all ages, 21 April 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I was first taught this game by my 4 year old neice who took great delight in thrashing me several times in a row. It's such a fun game and I have spent many wine-fuelled evenings playing with friends and family members of all generations.

Each player (I've played with just one other person right through to 14 of us; although the truth be told that did get abit messy after a few sherries) starts with 7 cards and the aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards. Sounds simple, but there are some extremely cruel twists along the way (both children and adults alike seem to delight in saving their "pick up 4" cards until you think you're about to win).

To sum up, the rules are simple - as I say my 4 year old niece plays so ignore the 7+ age range, and the game is fun and addictive. There's always cries of "just one more game".

Highly recommended for all ages. Enjoy!
