Get fitter, leaner, lighter! --Woman & Home, June 1, 2011

Shape up in a fortnight --The Times {Weekend}, April 16, 2011

A choice of a 12-week plan, or a two-week blitz to help you sculpt your shape and lose weight in preparation for a special occasion
--The Bookseller, February 11, 2011

Product Description

Responsible for creating some of the most famous physiques in fashion, music, politics and industry including Tom Ford, Naomi Campbell, Michael McIntyre, James Corden, Amanda Holden, Trudi Styler and Mel C, personal trainer Matt Roberts has worked with celebrities who have requested, demanded and wished for every conceivable goal. In this exciting new book, Matt encourages you to think like a celebrity, presenting two of his highly acclaimed fitness and diet programmes for following at home and in your gym. The first, a 12-week plan, allows time to radically change your body in all ways - sculpting your shape, stripping fat and increasing fitness levels dramatically. It will leave you thinner, stronger, fitter and more energised. And once you have burnt the fat away, it will stay away. The second, a 2-week 'blitz' programme, is something that Matt uses with clients when they are in the final two weeks of training before their big moment. It is intensive, it is strict, and it will make you push yourself to a whole new level, but it will give you the opportunity to rid yourself of as much fat and fluid as possible in a very short time frame, and you will lose inches far more quickly than you thought you could. This programme is unapologetically challenging, but it does produce great results, quickly! While Matt knows that being ready for a 'red carpet' moment heightens the level of attention on a scale unlike almost anything else, he also understand that you can produce something similar yourself at any time, by setting clear goals, having a target, setting a timeline and also understanding the upsides and downsides of achieving or failing to reach your desired goal. So whether you are preparing for a special occasion such as a wedding day or simply aiming to get yourself into shape for the beach in summer, Matt provides the structure, the programme, the expertise and the guidance to help you to reach your intended goal, fulfil your potential and demonstrate that no obstacle is too big and no challenge insurmountable.

I am a 34 year old fulltime working Mum who has been promising herself for ages to lose that last ½ a stone but have always managed to find an excuse. Anyway having heard Matt on Radio Two talking about his new book I felt this was the answer .... a simple day by day guide including both meal and exercise plans which I would be able to follow. So later that day I found myself on Amazon purchasing a copy and selecting next day delivery as I was really excited about getting started. On arrival the book looked great, really easy to use and clear pictures of all the excerices so off to Sainsburys I headed with daughter in tow and a very long shopping list. I managed to get nearly everything and felt really angelic as I went through the checkout looking at all this great heathly food. As soon as I got home I thought I should prepare lunch for my first day as I do work in an office and need to be able to take lunch with me. The receipe was easy to follow once I had managed to work out how to adjust for my own personal calorie allowance although it did take a while! I am now 4 days into the plan and although I realise it is early days and I do feel better, I am really struggling with the food. It is purley a time issue, as getting up at 5am to excercise and then cook pancakes or omelettes before taking my daugther to the childminder so that I am in the office by 8.30am is just too much. I am also having the same problems at the other end of the day too as by the time I have sat with my daughter to help her with her reading and then settle her down for the night, I am then back in the kitchen trying to make myself an evening meal and lunch for the next day. Although it has only been four days, I will definately continue for the rest of the week as I am hoping it will get easier as I get used to the recipes (they do taste lovely). Meanwhile my house though looks like I have thrown an all night party as all my other jobs, like cleaning, washing and ironing haven't had a look in! The other thing is I thought all the exercise would be things I could do at home yet tonight I am swimming, as well as training, and have had to organise a babysitter so I can head to the local leisure centre. Therefore I am dreading what time I will get to bed once I have got home, completed the training section and then prepared tomorrow's meals! All in all, it is as I have said, very early days and although I am struggling Matt has definately motivated me in to wanting to excercise and shift this last half a stone. But do beware if you have a very busy life this may not be the right book for you. I just wish I had a team of chiefs, personal trainers and nannies working with me as I sure I could then follow with ease! Good luck x

In his latest book, Matt encourages you to think like a celebrity, presenting two of his tried and tested fitness & diet programmes. By setting very precise, clear goals against a timeline, Matt gives his clients purpose and direction and, crucially, gets results - every time!

The basic principle of the 12 week plan described in his latest book is to combine a pretty strict diet with a rigorous, albeit short, daily workout. This, Roberts says, increase calorie usage, increases muscle activity and generally makes heart and lungs stronger, allowing time to radically change your body - sculpting your shape, stripping fat and increasing fitness levels.

The second part of the book, the 2 week blitz, describes the approach Matt uses with celebrities who are preparing for a fast approaching "red carpet" moment.

The book is broken down in such a way that it provides all you need to focus on each day during the programme: "today's diet" and "today's workout".

Diet is an important part and there is breakdown of your meals for each day. A small collection of easy to follow recipes are provided. Meals are typically low-fat and low-ish carb (think Portobello burger, chicken fajitas, wheat-free pasta with smoked salmon ... ), and portion sizes on the small side. Meals are repeated throughout the programme, but you could substitute meals/ingredients to suit your palate, provided they fall within the plan guidelines.

Having given up my gym membership a year ago, I was interested to find out how my routine compares and what I could do differently to make my workouts as efficient and effective as possible.

As with most things worth having in life, there is no easy, quick fix or magic wand - and Matt states very clearly that in the 1st chapter of the book. If you eat too much and do too little, you will get out of shape and fatter. No short cuts!

The main thing that I took away from the book is that goal setting is absolutely key. Having purpose, direction and a recognisable end point is important for anyone who wants to be successful and this is an ethos that can equally be applied to fitness.

Not feeling your best? Unhappy with the shape of your body? Preparing for an event where you need to impress?

Prepared to work hard + diligently and to give exercise your undivided attention?

If you answer "yes" to one of more questions, then this book could be for you.

I'll be dipping into this book regularly to inspire me + improve the efficiency of my workouts.

Great Purchase. 29 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I have just bought this book and I would like to refute some of the reviews above. I have bought this type of book many times. I find that this book is perfect. It tells me what to do each day. It tells me what to eat and which exercises to do. This, for me, saves time. Some of the foods are a bit complicated to prepare but it only takes a small amount of common sense to change it around a little and still have a nourishing healthy meal. This is exactly what I need.
As for Matt selling his soul in producing this book, grow up!
