5.0 out of 5 stars Lifesaver 27 May 2013
By RN
Format:DVD-ROM|Verified Purchase
As a 24 year old GCSE re-sitter, this CD-Rom is a lifesaver. I also bought the revision and workbooks but none of those have got anywhere near as much use as this CD. It's funny, easy to understand and use; this has taught me almost the entire syllabus in a very small period of time. You can select which exam board you want to study for and the videos are no more than 5 - 10 mins long at the most (the majority are 3 mins or so) and you can click to the exact topic you want to revise. Thoroughly recommended. Wish me luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Friendly voice and clever videos 5 Dec 2013
By Sue Bentley VINE VOICE
Format:DVD-ROM|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This excellent product impressed me from the moment it loaded up by checking to see which examination board was relevant to me, to make sure the questions and exercises where aimed at the right topics. The programme contains hundreds of short, clear videos that work through maths problems and examples. Their narrative is delivered by speakers with really nice voices, who do not sound like teachers they just sound like someone who knows this stuff and would like you to know it too.

You can print off test papers and try them, and then look at the DVD to work through your answers to get to that "oh I see it now" stage that good revision can lead to.

I learned the basics of vectors in ten minutes and can still remember it weeks later, a sure test that the information went in easily.
This is not a text book, do not work through it from start to finish. Instead draw up a list of the areas you are weakest on and work on them one at a time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful 14 July 2013
By light VINE VOICE
Format:DVD-ROM|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I founnd this maths cd very useful for revision. You can print off exam questions - have a go at them (either in a group or singly) and then watch the basic work throughs to see where you may have gone wrong, how to improve your technique or even see a different method you might find easier. I have used Edexcel discs (exam cafe) like this in the past and got my children's grades up by one or two bands.

You can see basic walk throughs of topics on youtube easily such as the Khan Academy but this disc is specifically targetted at UK Gcse maths syllabus topics and specifically exam questions so is really convient to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great to start to the future of revision 3 Aug 2014

A great to start to the future of revision

GCSE Maths tutorials CD ROM.
----------------------------------------
I teach maths to Uni students who have come in with poor or long forgotten maths skills as part of a student mentoring system we have.

This is an animated CD ROM of the popular revision maths series. The concepts are also narrated and the animation is simple but effective

What’s different from the books ?
--------------------------------------------
This CD ROM contains hundreds of tutorials which are animated and have spoken instructions. The use of colour is good and helps the student follow a variable through its life. Also seeing fractions and more simple concepts brought to life will help many understand the principles quickly and clear up a lot of the common confusion with conversions etc.

Quality and coverage.
-----------------------------
Yes it’s all here for many of the exam boards. The examples and tests are well thought out and implemented and so far I have found no mistakes.

As a teaching resource.
-------------------------------
I have a very visual way of learning and come across many students who relate to this. If nothing else it gives you ideas on how to present concepts. As it stands along with notes, revision books and plenty of practice this approach can only help.

Overall.
----------
A nice way to help explain things and a good way to practice, There is a lot of information contained here and it represents good value. There are lots of areas where it could be improved but as it stands it does a very good job indeed I will certainly recommended this to my students.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful 11 Sep 2012
By Chinatown Blue TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:DVD-ROM|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
It took a while to get my daughter to co-operate with reviewing this, as she saw it as a sneaky way of making her do extra homework. Then she came home from school with a problem involving prime numbers, and not understanding the factor tree from a rushed explanation by a teacher trying to cope with a badly behaved student at the same time. So I put this disc in and took a sharp intake of breath as the first thing it gave me was a selection of curriculums to choose from (and me with no idea which was the one her school use, since they don't tell parents that kind of thing and don't allow pupils to take books home). That was the worst point of the whole thing - that daunting menu of options. But I clicked to show everything, and from then on it was the plainest of sailing. We found the right section very quickly, she viewed the tutorials and went away very happy because it was now clear to her - and she had learned two very useful tips which had not been mentioned at school.

The tutorials do cover all the maths topics she has been told to expect at school, and all seem very clear. The speakers have regional accents, but they also have very good, clear diction, and are easily understandable. The visuals are also very straightforward and uncluttered, and the speakers recommend when to pause to jot down useful information or to get a better look at them. Terms used are explained and examples given to make it clear. There are also sample exam questions which are excellent for helping the student to test how well they have grasped it.

On the whole I was very well impressed and the tutor has already been of great value to my child, There are just a couple of things I felt could have been done differently.
