I admit it may have been a silly idea to buy books about a group of 14-year-old girls for a 10-year-old, but I really wasn't expecting the story to go the way it did. A romance between one of the 14-year-old and an 18-year-old adonis develops, and the main theme of the book is very much 'will they or won't they', if you catch my drift. Careful consideration is given by the characters, with some discussion and a lot of serious thought, and I don't want to spoil the ending so I'll stop there; but I personally think that these kinds of decisions are just too adult for 14-year-olds, never mind the girls who will be reading the book. Most of them probably won't be 10, but it's not too far a stretch to think that there will be a lot of 12- and 13-year-olds reading them, and I don't think that teenage sex should be normalised in this way. Call me naive, but I say these books should be saved for 16-year-olds at the earliest.
