Product Description

Gary Imlach, The Times, 14th October 2006

No amount of text can compete with the implied saga behind every
programme cover in Match Day.

FourFourTwo, November 2006

Todays programmes are better suited to ice galas than football
matches. Match Day celebrates the fact it wasn't always so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, 23 Nov 2006
This book is not aimed at the anorak-wearing programme collector. The whole point of the book is that it represents the true fans perspective - yes, some of the programmes are written on, some are creased - go up to the loft and drag you collection down and they'll be exactly the same, they have a real charm about them. This book represents the fans' eye view, not a perfect airbrushed history. Every league club is featured, with a lot of non-league as well. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 3 Nov 2006
By John Dewhirst "thecitygent" (Bradford, Yorks) - See all my reviews

In truth there isn't much to this book - introductory text and scanned colour images but the content is awesome and provides a brilliant record of the evolution of post-war football programmes to the bland match day magazines that emerged in the late 80s. The design of the book is first class - right down to the feel of the front cover. Anyone with the slightest interest in football ephemera or a collection of programmes like myself will derive a lot of enjoyment from these pages. My wife will not be the only one to describe it as sad but as far as I'm concerned it is classically sad. This and Simon Inglis' Chas Buchan Football Monthly compilation are the best football books of the year by a long way.

5.0 out of 5 stars football programmes, 6 Nov 2006

When I got this I thought oh no another football book gift but this was so different. It oozes quality and it has been shared around at work, with people off to get their own copy. The programmes are fantastically presented. This is a book to be cherished by all. Memories of freezing cold pitches and hot dog stands came to mind when I saw the programmes of matches I attended. A real nostalga piece.
