Surprisingly faithful to the original 2000AD strips,

Rogue Trooper (and even the "re-boot" titled "War Machine") was always a favourite of mine from 2000AD years ago. The game itself sticks very closely to the canonical material (it begins with the Quartz Zone Massacre, and features recognisable characters from the original comics), and although it's not a "next-gen" title, the game is surprisingly good fun.
As Rogue Trooper, you *are* an unstoppable soldiering machine, and the game is nicely packed with nifty little touches. Your bio-chipped rifle, pack and helmet can auto-target and act as a stand-alone turret (Gunnar), manufacture items and weapons from scrap (Bagman), and hack or decoy the enemy (Helm). The wonderful touches are that it's all consistent with the comic, and you can pull off some ridiculously crafty and over-the-top stunts thanks to your autonomous comrades. Gunnar can be placed as a remote sentry in front of a sealed door for a nasty surprise, for example, while Bagman can deploy mines over your head or behind your feet as you move around. It's basically good fun, and the strict adherence to the original material is a wonderfully nostalgic touch. I suppose it could look better given the capabilties of today's PCs, but the cinematic sequences look good and drive the story forward even more effectively than the comic did. All in, you could do a lot worse for this price, although 2000AD fans of old will get the biggest kick out of seeing Rogue finally brought to life.

Better than I expected,

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. Being a former console owner, I was looking for a third-person shooter with gamepad support and this one caught my attention because I was a big fan of the comic many years ago.
There's no point waffling on about the graphics, etc because the game doesn't have any particular "wow" factor but it's an enjoyable way to spend a few hours with enough inventive features and difficulty to keep you entertained. Oh and it works with Vista, which is always a bonus.
