5.0 out of 5 stars 4 Elements - top game! 8 Mar 2011
Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
4 Elements is a totally addictive game which is the next level for those who enjoy 3 in a row matching games such as Jewel Quest, Ancient Rome etc. The graphics are superior and the game expands onto different screens, following the flow of energy released as you match 3 or more in a row. By pressing the B button, an overview of the whole game can be seen, showing you which direction to head in order to achieve success.

There are 4 sections (elements) of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Within these sections are four other categories, some of which, themselves have four further categories. My partner, who is particularly good at these games managed it with many hours over 2 weeks. I play for around half an hour a day and am on the third level after about a month.

Interspersed between the 'matching' games are 'spot the difference' games, which although good in graphics, are not challenging for those who are seeking that kind of game. Personally, they are a very small portion of the game, so I still rate this whole game 5*.

My 7 year old grandson is also hooked and doing surprisingly well with tuition, so suitable for all age groups.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings 23 Mar 2011
By Moonless VINE VOICE
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
This game includes the well-know genres of spot the difference, finding hidden objects and matching jewels. However, the first two genres are not that well represented so if that is what you are looking for, you may be disappointed. The main focus of the game is matching jewels, along the lines of games like 'Jewel Quest'.Jewel Quest Expeditions (Nintendo DS) A magical land needs rescuing and only you, the player, can do this by restoring to power the four elements of air, earth, fire and water. Each section starts with finding hidden objects to discover the magic key which opens each book of element. The jewel quest then begins. The game is quite addictive although there is not that much to it. Each level gets more complicated as you progress and you are able to look at the overall design of each level (so you can see how far you have to go to complete that level) if you press the 'b' button on your ds.

However, I felt that the screens on my original ds did not do the graphics of the game any justice and in particular, it was difficult to see the spot the differences clearly. The game had more scope for more challenging levels and it finished much quicker than I expected. One to dip in to but don't expect too much of a challenge!

4.0 out of 5 stars good but...... 5 Mar 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game was just what I was looking for. I love jewel match and puzzle type games, so this seemed just the ticket. This game is jewel match with a twist. You have to create channels in the jewel board to allow one of the elements to flow through towards the goal at the opposite end of the jewel board. Each level becomes a little harder to finish before the timer runs out, and this becomes a bit of a challenge on the last few levels. Overall an addictive must for jewel match fans, the game lost one star because I felt it was not long enough, and could have included further more challenging levels.

4.0 out of 5 stars An intellegent game. 15 Jun 2011
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought 4 Elements for my husband for his birthday after we both enjoyed the demo version on the pc. It has 64 levels of proper gameplay, which consists of highlighting 3 or more gems to clear a path; it is interspersed with brief "spot the difference" and "find the missing object". These "extras" are a bit annoying as we are not really interested in spot the difference, but these have to be completed to move on to the next level. My concern was that it wouldn't transfer to DS very well because the object of the game is to follow various paths to reach a goal. These can be quite intricate and on the pc you can see a larger portion of the path than you can on the DS. My husband has not found too many problems with this as he uses the arrow buttons to move around the area, though I occasionally hear curses because the screen keeps moving to an area which he is not ready to play yet.
The game has my husband scratching his head but he is enjoying the challenge. Even when a level seems impossible he eventually finds a way round, but it can take two or three goes to get through it.So far he has reached level 47 and I am waiting patiently for hime to finish so I can have a go.
Update on 4 Elements: If you are left handed you will find it a lot harder to play than a right-handed person. The main controls are the stylus and the cursor control button. If you are left-handed and can't swap hands to use the stylus you have to alternate cursor button with stylus. It therefore takes a lot longer to navigate the screen and select gems when making a path. I am right-handed and completed all 64 levels in two days; my husband took two WEEKS and still hasn't managed to complete the last level because of the control problem. My advice is to buy the pc version if you are left-handed.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 elements 4 Mar 2011
By suej
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I loved this game. It kept me enthralled for ages, and I found it very addictive. The game is quite simple-just trying to get the water/air/earth/fire to flow to the end point by clearing the route so the element can proceed, but it can be really hard to do that 'quite simple' thing.
Some levels are really easy but towards the end of each section it gets harder. The final one where the screen is moving and you are trying to hold it still in order to clear the way for the elemental flow still has me stumped.
