Product Description

There is no shortage of great works to compete for the title "masterpiece of Victorian erotica." Indeed, as readers familiar with Dickens or Trollope can attest, the Victorians were nothing if not prolific. Yet to be a masterpiece, a work has to distinguish itself in many ways. It can be without equal in its subgenre or the apotheosis of its tradition. It can offer a deeper insight, a more vivid image, or a more surprising turn. Or it can be unique, truly peerless in its style, plot or execution. Having distinguished themselves in these ways, the works in this volume represent the very best of the Victorian erotic imagination. There's poetry and prose, narrative and instructional guide; there's fetish, queer, s-m, and vanilla; and there's bawdy, tender and daring. For the newcomer to the Victorian erotic universe, these stories are the place to start. For the connoisseur, this collection offers undiscovered delicacies. For everyone, these stories cannot fail to arouse, stimulate and amaze with their delightful sexiness and bold originality.

If you're interested in Victorian erotica then this book is a good starting place. It's somewhat of an unkown world to many people who think sex and erotica are something new and depraved that has only recently come into our lives via MTV and the like. Far from it the Victorians were probably more active in this respect than many people today who spend time watching TV or playing computer games.
Another good anthology is Millennia of Lust: The Erotica Anthology.
If you're looking for the complete novels try books by "A PUKKA SWIVER" (Great name that).

A virtual buffet of Victorian Erotica for the novice ..... 17 May 2007
By Rudolf Spoerer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Although I am not much of a fan of anthologies, since the short excerpts are frustrating, this collection of some great Victorian erotica was fun to read .....

There are 19 books excerpted here with most of the stories running from five to twelve pages, and the book weighs in at 319 pages ... I have read some of the full books in this volume but there were still a couple that I had not seen before.

Most certainly during the Victorian era the sex and erotica was varied, and many of today's taboo's were unknown to a people that had little to occupy their minds and bodies other than enjoy the pleasures of the outdoors, gardens, food and last but not least their libidos. Although erotic spanking and bondage was known to the Victorians we see very little of the violent BDSM in their literature. This is and important distinction since it makes it easy for a 'normal' reader to vicariouosly enjoy the wonderfull mind painting the authors detail.

The book lost one star in this rating since the authors did not provide a bilbliography allowing an easy find of the full novels ......

Great compilation 8 Jan. 2010
By mgspeed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Sometimes these compilations are a couple of good stories and a bunch of bad ones. This book is an exception, every story in this book is great! Very enjoyable read for those who like Victorian style stories.

Excellent anthology 14 Dec. 2009

But it's only an introduction. If you want to read complete works I recommend The Power of Mesmerism and The Romance of Lust.

See my List "Victorian Erotica".
