This album is almost a "The only baroque album you'll ever need... ever" collection, apart from the fact that the Giardino Armonico players maintain an evenness of style and quality rare in cheap compilations. The collection here really is close to a Desert Island Discs selection of baroque pieces you might choose if told you could only listen to one disc for the rest of your life. However, despite the well-known, perhaps too familiar nature of much of the music collected here, it is played with a feeling and intelligence that more than counters any danger of staleness.
You are unlikely to settle for one album by this collective. Their previous "Musical Journey" is at least as good as this, and has the advantage of not following such well-trodden paths as this one. Try them both, then delve into their catalogue. You will be far from disappointed.
