I have lots of baking books and I like to read them. This one surprised me pleasantly. At first it is a very thick book, with a hard cover, partly made from fabric, so it looks quite expensive. the inside is just like a photo diary, how to make every recipe from scratch. so every recipe has several photos of the different stages, and of course of the end result.

some of the photographs and recipes looked familiar, she has previously worked for womens Weekly baking books, which I also love. The advantage of this (and those) books is that you can blindly trust it will work. And if it doesn't, you made a mistake :)

I bought this book a while ago now, and have had time to try out various recipes. I absolutely love it, all the recipes have worked well. I am currently doing a NVQ in patisserie and it seems like this book contains nearly all the recipes that I have been taught in the course plus more.
All recipes contain pictures for complex stages and it is very easy to understand, if you would only like one perfect baking recipe book, this is definitely the one to have.

This book was a great surprise it focus on every important step and teaches step by step all you have to do to achieve good pieces. I am 100% portuguese, and of course I leave in Portugal so I was very exited when I saw a recipe for portuguese custard tarts on this book, they are called PASTÉIS DE NATA here and there are a few recipes that vary but this on is the classical one without errors in it. I am very pleased with this purchase. THe pictures through out the book are very impressive. Great Book!
