As someone who is studying COBOL on a distance learning course this book has proved to be an invaluable reference. Each chapter deals with a specific function of the language with practical examples at the end. Constructs are clearly explained and the source code included is simple and easy to follow whilst demonstrating the power of COBOL. I wouldn't suggest that a novice purchase this book, nor would it suffice as a definitive guide, but for someone who is looking for user friendly assistance without being patronising, this is the one for you.
