5.0 out of 5 stars Steven Sewell. 24 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
I have been using Petroutsos' expertise as a bench mark reference since VB4. This book is of the same very high standard I have come to expect from him. ***** is well deserved.

However, having upgraded to Visual Studio 2008 from 2005, I was very puzzled by 'Mastering VB 2008' compared to his 'Mastering VB 2005'. This book is not merely a copy of 'Mastering VB 2005' so I would strongly recommend purchasing that book as well... It is longer, deeper, cheaper and is printed on FAR better quality paper... and 100% of the 2005 version is applicable to VB 2008.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for intermediate developers 20 Aug 2009
By TomHex
Format:Paperback
I've been learning VB.NET for some time and wanted to get a book that would teach me the more advanced topics.
The book contains a lot of content and each topic is described in a lot of depth.

This book isn't for people who have just started programming as the book isn't written as a 'step by step' guide to programming. Those who have just started would be better reading Michael Halvorson's Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step which is what I read when starting out.Microsoft® Visual Basic® 2008 Step by Step (PRO- Step by Step Developer)

Overall the book is well written and will take you from an intermediate to advanced level in Visual Basic. I have learned a lot from it which is why it gets 5 stars. Recommended for those who want to advance their Visual Basic programming skills.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book to increase your web design technique 30 Oct 2011
By SKLau
Format:Paperback
This book introduces a better way by using Visual Basic to do the web design. It can work with the ASP.net and ADO.net. For web designers who must use data base would have an easy and reliable way other than the PHP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Visual Basic 2008 18 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
I have recently upgraded from VB6 to VB2008, and there are quite a few differences between the two languages. I'm an amateur programmer and was looking for a tutorial with a reference section. This book is pitched at my level and is written in a very accessible style. It gives me answers without too much jargon and explains the more complex concepts well. There are plenty of examples to illustrate the points, and tables listing many of the options at strategic points in the text. This is the book that is sitting next to me when I am programming, and usual gives me the help that I need.
