Product Description

Review

This book is highly-recommended for any market analyst or trader who wishes to add cycles to their analytical toolbox. This is a clear and concise introduction. --Bill Sarubbi, Fund Manager, Cycles Research Investments LLC, Vienna

I really like this book. It takes the excellent original idea of Hurst and brings it right up-to-date in the modern computer era. It explains cycles and harmonics and shows how to construct Valid Trend Lines and Lines of Future Demarcation. It does not pretend that this subject is easy, but does explain it with very clear charts and writing. The work shows the relationship to Elliott waves and RSI oscillations. There are some clear worked examples and ideas of how to put on and manage a trade. Most investors will find it a useful addition to their knowledge. Well done Chris Grafton. --Robin Griffiths, Cazenove Capital Management

Cycles are one of the most underutilised, and yet most rewarding, sources of information available to an analyst or investor. If it is possible to anticipate a reversal, and track it in real time, then eager investors should want to know about it. Until relatively recently, cycles have not been properly understood, so there has been a dearth of practical knowledge. This gap is now being filled by dedicated researchers such as Chris Grafton. His book brings together the ideas of one of the pioneers of cycle analysis - the engineer, J.M. Hurst - and presents them in an easily understandable and very useable form. Once mastered, the techniques explored in the book should be a source of significantly enhanced market understanding and very profitable investment. --Tony Plummer, Author, Forecasting Financial Markets, Director, Helmsman Economics Ltd

Product Description

One of the best classical methods of technical analysis brought up to date

This book offers a modern treatment of Hurst's original system of market cycle analysis. It will teach you how to get to the point where you can isolate cycles in any freely-traded financial instrument and make an assessment of their likely future course.

Although Hurst's methodology can seem outwardly complex, the logic underpinning it is straightforward. With practice the skill needed to conduct a full cycle analysis quickly and effectively will become second nature. The rewards for becoming adept are high conviction trades, tight risk management and mastery of a largely non-correlated system of analysis. In this extensive step-by-step guide you will find a full description of the principal tools and techniques taught by Hurst as well as over 120 colour charts, together with tables and diagrams. The Updata and TradeStation code for all of the indicators shown is also included.

If you are interested in Cycles within the Financial Markets this is a great book. I have read and tried to understand Elliot Waves and found that, for me, there was too much open to interpretation. I recently came across JM Hurst and his Cycle Principles and wanted to do more research. Surprisingly there is not much written about him and his techniques. His book "The Profit Magic of Stock Transaction Timing", written in the 1970's, I must confess, was a little bit daunting for me. Luckily I came across this Book. Christopher Grafton has managed to explain in a clear and concise manner what, surprisingly, is actually a very simple and logical market measuring tool. The book uses examples that you can follow in detail and he supports the book by enabling you to print the Book's examples from the web and download useful code that you can use. I would recommend anyone interested in Hurst Cycles to get this book as it de-mystifies the subject in a way that will save you both time and money.

J. M. Hurst in the spotlight 13 Jan 2012
By George - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
In 2011 the work of J. M. Hurst, considered by many as the father of modern cyclic analysis, enjoyed sudden and renewed interest by the trading community. This translated into several works approaching Hurst's methods from three different angles.

I'll start first with the current book. Just as stated by the author, it will help readers get a better grasp and understanding of Hurst's work, at a fraction of the the cost of his original private course. It will even provide buyers with the relevant code for Tradestation and Updata. This way, if you're tech savvy and already own one of these charting packages, or don't mind the additional investment needed to use them, you will be able to experiment further with the concepts covered in the book. Since it contains the code for all the different cycles, channels and other indicators, the author spares the reader the math details of Hurst's work, which may be for the best, since this has always been one of the stumbling blocks in applying Hurst's methods.

The self-proclaimed goal of the author is to lead the reader to a stage where he can perform his own cyclic analysis. The bottom line is that how well you master Hurst's methods after reading this book, as with so many other things in life and trading, will depend solely on how much work you're willing to put into experimenting with the concepts.

The book ends with a concise summary of the different theories explaining the causes of cycles, which should stimulate even further research into this fascinating subject.

Mr Grafton mentions the Sentient Trader software, by David Hickson, which covers similar ground. The author of that software has, understandably, undertaken a different approach: there is no code sharing, but instead a sleek black box, which generates trading signals based on Hurst's original work.

There is also the OddsTrader app, by CIT Dates, which is currently the only mobile app that allows users to chart Hurst channels and to use them as the basis for several different trading strategies. It even includes a built-in risk management and position sizing tool.

In summary, if you're interested in cycles and cyclic analysis, there has hardly been a better time for delving into and exploring the subject.
