One basic assumption of profit making organisations is the maximisation of shareholders wealth, and sound financial management plays a major role in this. It is a very wide subject requiring knowledge of aspects of accounting, taxation, management, finance, capital management, investment appraisal, risk management, pricing, dividend policy, financial mathematics and strategic financial management.
This book is targeted at those professionals who have taken over a strategic planning position but who have no knowledge of all aspects of financial management. It is also designed to help those studying for professional qualifications in finance and banking subjects. It provides a step-by-step guide from the basics elements of financial management through to advanced strategic financial management. It also covers the ACCA and ICAEW financial management syllabus.

Understanding money...at last !,
By
This review is from: Mastering Financial Management: A Step-by-Step Guide to Corporate Financial Management (Financial Times Series) (Paperback)
Just by chance, I picked up this book about (yawn) Financial Management ...and found myself able to read and understand it...in fact, I was gripped.
Not only did I actually understand - at last - how best to use and control money within my businesses, for the first time I grasped what it was really about. For example, how to work out how much to borrow for a particular project...when to repay it...when to gear up for new capital projects..and how to cut your losses when the unexpected happens (as it always does). It even explains how to incentivise your staff with bonuses ...without endangering the business. If only Sir Fred 'The Shred ' Goodwin and his ilk had read this, we would not be in the mess we are in now ! Somehow I have managed to survive in business for over 30 years. It would have been a much easier ride if Clive Marsh had got round to writing this book a long time ago ! 'Mastering Financial Management' is all logical commonsense. It contains everything anyone venturing into business, braving the recession or considering a career in finance really, really needs to know. For the price of a cheap single meal out, it will help put food on the table at home for life.
