This book is an excellent reference to the new stuff in Delphi 7, and still gives a worthwhile overview of the system capabilities.

It isn't a tyros book, and doesn't claim to be. That said, the text is clearly written. If you are proficient in any other modern language, this book will prove useful.

I would have preferred more detail on cross-platform development, and a cleaner separation of abstract database topics from the various implementations thereof. For example, if you're using dbExpress, it is worth ploughing thru the IBX and ADO sections also.

Nonetheless, highly recommended.

I bought this book after getting delphi enterprise edition without having any knowledge of delphi or pascal beforehand and i thought this book would make me a master in the language unfortunately im still clueless.

i come from a programming background in php, python and c++ but delphi was always something i wanted to get into due to the fact of it being associated with excellent database support, and it does! Thats what makes this book good, if your experienced in delphi this explains a lot about programming around databases.

although i still dont know delphi this book is good if your a current delphi developer, it provides a good reference for coding but the two disadvantages are, no great introduction to either pascal or delphi also the book is written in quite technical language.

i bought this book to help me with my A level computing coursework, upon recomondation from a friend. unfortunatly it did not live up to his praises. There was the occasional time where i did find it useful for the odd reference, but on the whole i learnt delphi by myself and using the help file. So for anyone who is looking for a beginner book, spend your money elsewere. if you are already experienced in delphi or pascal then this may well be well up your street!
