Book Description

22 July 1999 Mastering
Cold Fusion is a web development tool used to build complex, interactive web sites. It has become the tool of choice for web developers integrating back end corporate databases into their web sites. Cold Fusion consists of three primary elements: a web application server, a development environment, and a server side markup language. Cold Fusion's chief competitor is Visual InterDev with whom it has competed very successfully to date. Cold Fusion 4 is a new version scheduled for release in late 1998 or early 1999.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate & frustrating 1 Sep 1999

Format:Paperback
I gave up on this book halfway into the second chapter. There wer several typos in the examples, and the files on the included CD were not the same as the book. It looks like it was just a sloppy job of running to print.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent beginning/intermediate reference 22 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have both of Ben Forta's books and like them a lot. I'm the type of person that buys any book that looks good on a program I use all the time so I ordered this one and I'm glad I did. Although there were the usual disappointing typos (that all computer books seem to have), I found this book to be a worthwhile reference. Some topics are explained in more depth and in different ways than Ben Forta's book which is very helpful. If you already own the other CF books, the fact that the tag reference is on the CD is actually a benefit, since more of the book is dedicated to actual information and examples. Highly recommended, especially for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource! 20 Aug 1999

Format:Paperback
This book is excellent! I have never worked with Cold Fusion before buying this book, but I was able to learn enough in the first three chapters to start creating my own Cold Fusion sites. You don't need to be a programmer to learn Cold Fusion, you just need to know HTML. I haven't finished the book yet, but the chapters in the second section of the book (Part II) are so easy to understand. Most books I have read in the past make you wade through a ton of information before you learn anything, but this book covers what you need to know in a succinct fashion. And as far as the other review listed here complaining about using X and Y in the examples....that actually helped me to understand things better!
