Book Description

10 Aug 2007
Are you a new beader seeking solid beading foundations? Or are you an experienced beadworker wanting to refine your skills? Mastering Beadwork is your ultimate resource for beading knowledge-it's a project book plus reference tool wrapped up in one. Based on years of teaching experience, Carol Cypher presents easy-to-understand instructions with informative sidebars to help anyone master beading techniques. Each of the 13 techniques are explained in detail, then further explored with projects to enhance the beader's skills and confidence. The 63 projects included here-ranging from bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings to findings, closures, beaded beads, and other beaded objects-teach a single project or technique but are arranged to build skills at any level. You'll also find suggestions for personalizing and expanding on each project or pattern. Learn all the basic beading stitches-from peyote, spiral, vertical and horizontal netting, bead crochet, right-angle weave, triangle weave, daisy chain, ladder stitch, ndebele, brick stitch, African helix, and more. Mastering Beadwork is a classroom in a book, an all-in-one reference guide, and a compendium of beading techniques. It will supplement what you've already learned in beading classes, set you on the first steps to beading confidence, and infuse your work with inspiration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful 6 Sep 2007
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
This is a lovely book filled with beautiful clearly illustrated projects and techniques. It will help you with the basics and inspire you when you're feeling jaded. The book is spiral bound. Consequently, it lies flat when you are working from it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes and wants to master off-loom beadwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE book i have been searching for.... 3 Sep 2008
Format:Spiral-bound
I have been beading for years, generally using kits or following designs in books and magazines, but never really understanding how different beading stitches work and can be put together to make projects. I have been searching for a book that would teach me the ins and outs of beadwork so that i could create my own pieces, and this is that book. It is wonderfully written and illustrated, and even though i have now completed all of the projects in the book, i still dip into it as a refresh my memory when i am beading. Hand felted jewellery by Carol, is also a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, lovely book 8 May 2008
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I am fairly new to beading and this book has everything I need. The instructions and diagrams and crystal clear and the projects are absolutely gorgeous. I cannot wait to get started :-)

It's also a great idea to have the book spiral-bound, as it lies flat when you are trying to follow the instructions.

A perfect book for beaders everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beading book 24 Jan 2010
By Sue
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
Mastering Beadwork is an excellent book. One of the books I look at most. It seems to cover nearly every stitch there is including peyote stitch, dutch spiral, netting, spiral rope, right-angle weave, triangle weave, square stitch, daisy chain, ladder stitch, herringbone stitch, brick stitch, and even crochet. Each section has various projects clearly illustrated with other suggestions for variations. Carol Huber Cypher's enthusiams for beading shines through each page. Here is just a taste of some of the projects you can make: band of triangles bracelet; bookend beaded beads; starry night card case; peppered netted rope; flaming cocktail ring; classically feminine pearl collar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! 31 May 2011
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
This book is just what I have been looking for. Some books/ kits call the designs by other names. Maybe they are trying to be creative, or just imply that the designs are of their own making. This book just calls the designs by straight forward names that describe them perfectly. A simple book that clearly describes how each design is constructed and how it can be adapted.

It is inspirational...and I want more.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE book for beaders 7 Nov 2010
By Anita H
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
If there's a book a beader - beginner or expert it matters not - has to have, this is THE one. A comprehensive guide to the most known techniques with variations and projects proposed. Tips and suggestions are also given. Many explanations are not too easy to follow but with a needle and some thread it becomes very clear. The fact that the book is spiral bound is a plus not to be ignored: you can follow easily the instructions while you are working. Not all the items in the photos have explanations but part of the magic is recreating yourself what you see and like. I am one who does not copy but prefer inspiration and not having full instructions for everything is not a fault for me. Certainly an excellent book to start with, a wonderful book you can't do without even if you have loads of experience and other books.

This is one of those beading books which belong on every beady bookself. It's a great way to learn stitches as a beginner, with clear illustrations and a good selection of projects for most stitch types. It is equally useful for a more advanced beader, as a quick refresher on stitches one uses infrequently.

This book lacks some more step by step graphics. It has written instructions but sometimes hard to follow. I think that this is a great lack in this kind of book...
