Laurie Wisburne has written a wonderful book. It not only covers block printing, screen printing, digital printing but also dyeing techniques and how you can combine various printing methods. If you have this book, you will not need any other book on printing. Thanks Laurie for writing such a wonderful book!

Read it through in a few sittings - very clear and attractive in its presentation and encouraging in its approach.

Good book with some great info and tips! 20 Feb 2014

As a graphic designer, I wanted some great tips and tutorials for inspiration for digital textile design. It's a great quality book with great information on design execution and elements. One caveat to those interested in purchasing this book is that fact even though the book was published in 2011, the digital textile tutorial for the half-drop repeat for Adobe Illustrator (pages 82-85) are now outdated. Instead of the tutorial's long setup of guide and rulers and creating the half-drop pattern by putting together your design like a puzzle, Adobe Illustrator CS6 now has a pattern design feature where you can select your design and under the menu bar choose: OBJECT>>PATTERN>>MAKE. And from there you can customize your design by creating half-drop repeats, brick repeats, straight repeats, etc. You can even edit (and make future edits) of the design live with the feature and it saves automatically as a brush. This new Ai CS6 pattern feature saves the designer so much more time by letting them focus on the actual design process than the setup time for measurement execution. Hopefully one day soon, this book will be updated to focus on this great feature that many designer's do not know about.

A great resource and to the point 16 April 2012

I've been a fan of Laurie Wisbrun's designs for quite a while so I had great expectations for this book and I wasn't disappointed. This book is great at being succinct in its explanations with enough information to be truly helpful and not too much to overwhelm. It broke down the process of creating, printing and selling fabric so well and gave tips, tricks and hints along the way. I don't make it through many of these types of books but this one kept me engaged from beginning to end. It's given me a lot to think about and allowed me to draft a plan for my own designs.

Very thorough book 18 Aug 2012
By Kass Hall - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I'm new to surface pattern design and have bought a couple of good books on the topic. This is excellent.

There is so much in this book to learn - it is angled at digital printing of surface patterns but does cover other printing methods in good detail. It covers the main players in digital printing retailing (like Spoonflower) - as well as gives good instruction on how to create different pattern types (such as repeat patterns, random patterns etc) suitable for printing.

It also has some really great interviews with a range of designers, some of whom I am aware of, some of whom were new to me - always a good thing to get variety.

I would definitely recommend this to people looking to take a step up from basic fabric printing to creating commercial, usable fabrics for selling.

I loved the instructions for repeats. 3 Aug 2013
By Melissa S. Wolfson - Published on Amazon.com

I really like that it showed me how to do repeats. I am using basic photo software (PSE11), but with her instructions, I was able to do repeats that I didn't think I could do. I am only 3/4 way through but I thought it has been very informative. I had never designed fabric before but now, within two or three weeks, I have designed 6 different fabrics and adapted them to three difference color families.
