Ive just started dreamweaver and flash and already knew a few of the basics but wanted something to brush up upon and expand upon, so i went down to the Biggest Waterstones and checked out all the webdesign books. I must have been there for an hour scoping them out.

I ended up buying this book, it really is so comprehensive and the layouts brill, the images are clear concise and it covers absolutely without dumbing down or skimping, as some of the 'easier' books tend to do. Every bullet point comes with corresponding arrow and image so you can see what you're meant to be highlighting etc.

I would def recommend this above all others you wont be disappointed. I did check out the Dreamweaver bible but it was full of technical jargon and not user friendly and just WAY too big with not enough images to go with the text. I also checked out the O'Reilly ones but they werent good enough either.

Its difficult buying off Amazon without being able to check the insides so I def recommend going down to the biggest bookstore near you.

The second half guides you through Flash and complements the first section really well. Flash is brill, and at first I thought CS3 version was really technical, but now that ive got this book it tells you that CS3 has made Dreamweaver really straightforward with lots of shortcut key commands ie when you you use the rightclick on your mouse, it has way more functions that the old Dreamweaver 8 version.

Forget the other reviews and get this book. Im a quick learner and its a brill guide and makes me want to design a website straightaway.AND its a lot cheaper than the other books but thats not the real factor. Im def happy with this one, its like someones lifted the veil of mystery on Dreamweaver phew!

Leaves something to be desired. 28 Dec 2008

I bought this book because I was trying to learn how to design and publish dynamic websites. The only reason I bought this book rather than the plethora of other books offered is because I noticed that it contained information on both Dreamweaver CS3 and Flash CS3 Professional, both of which I intended to create my sites with.

The book itself is quite large, which usually means that it's chock-full of information, however I didn't find that to be the case with this book.

I have basic knowledge of both programs, and I was disappointed that a lot of the book was dedicated to extremely simple tasks, such as opening a new page - which ends up being a tutorial on how to press the button that says "New" on the welcome screen. I ended up skipping through about 80% of the book because I already knew how to use all of the topics discussed. I thought that the inclusion of trivial topics in the programs was completely unnecessary, I mean, I know that it's marketed to beginner users, but I think anyone who can navigate a computer is capable of innately knowing how to do the simple actions such as the above example.

Overall, I think it might be a good book if the customer has absolutely NO prior knowledge of the programs, actually, it would probably only be beneficial to those who have never even opened the programs. So if you've never heard of the programs, this book is for you, otherwise, I'd recommend trying a different book.

I am a Dreamweaver newbie and even with the limited knowledge I have about the software, this book is a mess. It never tells you anything about DIV tags, which is what web design is all about these days. It talks of some other type of tag, and then suddenly skips to having a photo placed inside the tag without telling you how to do it. Really not helpful. Nice concept poorly executed.
