This is the story of Pride and Prejudice as seen through the eyes of Reggie, Mr. Darcy's dog. Reggie has a keen perception of things going on around him and the story begins with Darcy as a young boy of 15, picking Reggie out from a litter. We see the two of them become close companions as Darcy grows up and enters the story of Pride and Prejudice that Jane Austen penned. But the story also takes you to those silent months and behind the scenes where Reggie has much on which to reflect, comment, and intervene. Visit "KaraLou's" website, Jane Austen's Land of Ahhhs;,, to read additional stories by her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh so sweet 23 Feb 2011

I loved this book. It stays so true to the original story and you really buy into Reggie's view of the world. The ending left me with a lump in my throat and I have already reread it. This is definitely a feel good book that is on my 'read when you are feeling down' list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book from Darcy's Dogs point of View. 29 May 2010
Some spoilers

Such a beautiful written book from the point of view of Darcy's dog Reggie. It shows from him being a child and how he chose Reggie and how he grows up with him. He goes to Netherfield and meets Elizabeth. He really likes her and is always trying to get his master to notice her. Elizabeth likes Reggie, and later in the story he gets badly injured by Wickham and not long after the marriage he dies leaving his son to look after the Pemberley family. It is such a wonderful book you cannot help but shed a tear here and there especially toward the end of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reggie's story is delightful 13 Dec 2008
By B. Jones - Published on
I first read "Master Under Good Regulation" as fan fiction. When it was published I knew I had to add it to my book collection. It is a delightful retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It is Reggie,Darcy's dog, who relates the events leading up to the ultimate happy ending. Kara Louise's stories are all enjoyable, I have yet to read anything of hers that has not delighted me. This is a must buy for the Austen addict.

4.0 out of 5 stars way better than I expected 4 May 2009

I was a little leary of this book: A dog's point of view?! BUT, I thought it was very well done and, once again, showed a different side of Darcy and his past that we can only conjecture. I strongly recommend this to add to anyone's collection who is still in love with Mr Darcy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story! 2 Dec 2009

I truly enjoyed this spin-off of Pride and Prejudice. It gives the reader a concrete, realistic idea of what shaped Mr. Darcy as he was growing up and made him the man he became as well as what motivated his behavior all seen through the eyes of his faithful companion, Reggie. Anyone who has had a special dog-friend can identify with this point of view. (Sometimes I think dogs understand humans better than we understand them.) There are moments in this story when you will just laugh out loud and others where you want to cry. Very poignant. It is also a "safe read" as there are no "peeping tom" incidents in it which is akin to the original story. It also follows the original story plot pretty faithfully; and, personally, I enjoy the "old" language. It makes the read more seamless with Jane Austen's book, although I did not find it heavily done here. Hope you like it as much as I did!

3.0 out of 5 stars This is a 3 and half star rating 18 Jun 2014

Of course, you know the story is written by a dog. So all I can say is skip the first 20 percent of the book because the story doesn't get interesting until Wickham runs off with Miss Darcy. From then on the book is fine and Elizabeth is wonderful when she interacts with the dog. It even sounds true. Who knew that a dog found the right girl and tired to make them work things out. So there are nice parts to the story and I am not sorry I bought this book or that I read it. If you like P&P and you like dogs, go for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for me 28 May 2014

The concept of the story is fine, however the voice of Reggie doesn't seem to ring true. He's too literate, too introspective somehow. Other authors have managed a canine narrative successfully which is why I tried this. Alas, it fell flat.

Pet peeve: The author also makes the mistake of overusing an archaic phrase to try to lend verisimilitude of the era. JA did not use "whilst" in every paragraph, so it probably wasn't all that common.
