5.0 out of 5 stars Great Medieval Story 20 April 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When Sir Rohan de Luc rides with his band of brothers to take Alethorpe as a prize for William the conqueror, little did he realise that he would have to face bold maiden Isabel of Alethorpe. Although Isabel cannot hold off Rohan and his men she vows she will defy the Black sword in any way possible.

Rohan de Luc cannot believe this maiden as she defends her home, and is struck by her courage and her beauty. He demands not only the manor but Isabel's herself. Although Isabel vows to fight him in any way possible she cannot help but succumb to this handsome Norman who is determined to have her body.

This is a great Medival read by Karin. I loved all the characters and especially the sexy Rohan who's everything a woman could want. It is a well recommended book and I will be looking out for more from this writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda A. First review ever! Brighton England 29 Mar 2009

WOW! I dont usually write reviews but felt i had to say something about this book. I have been waiting for a book like this since Kathleen Woodiwiss, Wolf and the Dove. I think to days historical romances are to tame!(I have read hundreds over the last 20 years.)Karin Tabke has written a book that i believe is how warriors really were like in 1066. Hard real men not all this silly soft stuff!I loved Rohan du Luc and his men, Isabel of Alethorpe was a strong lady as well, did her best to stand up to Rohan. I have just got a copy of the second book Master of Torment cant wait to read the next warrior. I hope Karin writes books on all 7 of the warriors!
Hope some of you historical readers out there that are not faint hearted read this book because i think it was brilliat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant historical romance saga! 4 Feb 2012
By Thea_82
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't write reviews on historical romances very often as I read so many of them that I just wouldn't have time to cover them all. However, in the case of this book, I couldn't resist. I have very many favorite historical romance authors, just to name a few Julie Garwood, Kinley MacGregor, Paula Quinn, Lynsey Sands, Monica McCarty, Johanna Lyndsey, Sara Bennett, Teresa Medeiros. I've read all their books and so many more over 5 times, I started looking for another great author and came across Karin Tabke's Blood sword Legacy series.
Wow, there simply aren't enough good words in the vocabulary to describe how great this book is. I couldn't put it down after starting it and have already started book number 2 (Master of Torment) as I couldn't wait to read more about the fascinating characters that make up the 8 knights of the Blood Sword.

I'm usually very critical when reading these books as I've been a fan for so long and have read over thousand of them, therefore I don't give a book 5 stars unless it's very deserving. If any of you have read Born in Sin by Kinley MacGregor, Ransom, Prize or Secret by Julie Garwood, and you loved any of those books, then you'll definitely love this one.

The hero and heroine, Rohan and Isabel, are fantastic together. Though he's very tough, and mean outwardly at the beginning of the book, you still feel for him as you know he's suffered greatly in the past and has built up this shell to protect himself.

Enjoyed this book alot. Will now read the others in the series. This book was endearing and a little bit different to other historical romance as you meet the comrades in arms right at the beginning in terrible trouble and imaginable pain and tourture and immediately you have a strong affection for them. Lovely storyline and beautifully written

I bought all three of Blood Sword Legacy (so far) on the strength of a review I read here comparing this particular novel to The Wolf and the Dove, which is a personal favourite of mine. I was sorely disappointed unfortunately but decided to persevere as i'd purchased all three.

Once i'd got past the irritations that beset me in this novel, namely the bordering on racist characterisation of the Saracen knight, the 'African' whom Tabke often describes as having purple lips (???!!!!), the ridiculously changeable heroine and the predictably overbearing but two dimensional hero, I finally began to find some vague sense of a lessening of my initial irritation.

I think I can safely say that the only reason to read this novel is as a prelude to the others although there again I have to confess that by the time I reached the second and then third book in the series, I couldn't even recall mention of the protagonists from those novels in this one.

Strangely (and perhaps thankfully) the character of 'Mankhu', (he of the 'purple' lips) has finally disappeared by the third novel as clearly he was not considered worthy of actually being a 'blood sword' brother (and perhaps being given his own novel), regardless of the fact that he had been present at the original 'trial by fire' that this group endure at the beginning of this series in the Iberian jail. He by now has been relegated to the lowly position of the hero's 'man'........hmmmmm!

Aside from these reservations and having now read the next two in fairly quick succession I would say that it's probably worth reading this one first after all since after reading the next two, which are immeasurably superior, you'll want to read it anyway.
