From the moment I put on the record I was completely mesmerized and blown away at the same time! Master Of Illusion is not your average standard fayre Power Metal record. This is so much more!

Each song sounds different from the next and there are many breaks, variations and nods and hints to Prog Metal throughout each song to keep the listener hooked. The songs are so catchy, infectious, hook laden melodic Metal fest that it is impossible to pick a favourite track. The music is very uplifting and gives out a positive vibrational radiance throughout the whole record. There is this feelgood factor that you experience during and long after the record is over that only the mighty bands of the 80's could generate.

Alessio Garavello's effortless vocals gives me the impression of surfing over clouds. Andrea Martongelli is a guitar hero like they don't make them anymore. He shreds whilst making sure that melody prevails. His guitar solos will bring out the air guitarist out of you! The infectious and original keyboard sounds of Steve Williams contribute to make the melodies memorable. Furthermore what makes the record pleasant to listen to is that the double bass drums are kept to a minimum and used sparingly.

Forget DragonForce (DragonFarce?) and all the rest of the cliched Power Metal horde. Master Of Illusion is a superior album in a class of it's own. Make it a point of honour to buy this masterpiece!

I guess the first thing that hits you with this album is the production quality, the depth of the music (now with two guitars since Alessio took over rhythm guitar duties) and how much the band have progressed since `Magic Never Dies'. The songs do not go at a break-neck speed all the way through but they do not need to, this is bombastic power metal at its finest and purest.
The chorus' in the songs are so infectious that you find yourself subconsciously singing along after just the first listen, `Master of Illusion' and `The Vigil' spring to mind, quickly followed by the rest of the album.
As for `Stand out' tracks I simply cannot differentiate these from the rest of the songs on the album, although people will undoubtedly have their favourites. On many albums there are songs that you want to skip just to get to that one track you love so much, simply because the other songs are just not at the same standard. I am very pleased to say that this album belongs to a very small group of albums that maintain the same degree of quality all the way through, when one track ends, you can't wait for the next one to begin; that's how amazing `Master of Illusion' really is.
You may be thinking that this review is so positive because I am a huge fan of the band, on the contrary, as a huge fan I am also one of their harshest critics. There were songs on their previous release that just didn't grab me in the same way as those on `Master of Illusion' despite being solid power metal songs. Put simply, this album may not redefine the genre, but instead gives it the kick up the a** it needed and shows us all how it's meant to be done.
I can't believe I almost forgot the special guests that make this album extra special; Bill Hudson's solo on `The Vigil' being my personal favourite.

Being release number 4 this new album truly exceeds the music arrangements of the previous - already great - albums. The band proved once again they can present their tunes in a fresh way, but still being able to keep the typical Power Quest sound! My favourite tracks are "Cemetary Gates" and "Kings of Eternity", but in fact all of the tracks sound brilliant. This album will not stop spinning in my stereo for sure. Certainly worth to listen for any fan of this genre, let it be rock, power metal, metal, melodic & prog! Well done Power Quest, hope to catch you at a live show shortly!

This is power quest's best album. With songs like cemetary gates this is worth the money. But this band recently spilt up. They were still in the shadow of talented power metal bands like dragonforce. I prefer these guys to stratovarius or cellador because power quest have skill but for me fell apart when sam totman left to create demoniac and dragonheart then dragonforce.
