This is a superb soundtrack that vividly captures the unique delights of the Aubrey saga.
We have the incredibly atmospheric pieces that were used in the film in times of tension and they are followed by the joyous violin and cello favourites of Aubrey/Maturin which in turn are followed by the moving score that was set to the scenes of lamentation and so on.
This C.D is a must whether you are wanting to be reminded of the incredible film, are a fan of the books and want a background to your reading(highly reccomended), are a fan of inspirational sountracks, or just enjoy good music.
A sheer delight.

I have yet to see the film, but have read the first two Patrick O'Brian books. I really enjoyed the books, and the CD soundtrack is great to listen to as you read along.
Music written for film, as much of this CD is, is so much better as it was obviously composed to compliment and enhance the action and visual production values. The mixture of original score with existing classical and folk music really worked well. I can't wait to see the film now.

I so much enjoyed seeing the film a couple of times and seeing Patrick O'Brian's Jack Aubrey brought to life. I can hardly wait for the DVD, but in the meantime this CD brings back delightful memories. The original music is powerful, and beautifully interspersed with the musical interludes in Aubrey's cabin and the delightful sweet sound of violin and cello and the music of Mozart, Bach and Boccherini, plus a little Vaughan Williams.
It would have been nice to have had the shanties around the captain's table included, but other than that I rate this CD highly.

A very, very good soundtrack album. The music newly composed for the film is extremely good, and blends in well with the classical pieces used in the film. And the traditional hornpipes and jigs are carefully crafted into soundtrack, as they are both combined onto the new music, and, on other tracks, allowed to stand alone.
And if you liked the film, well it will just shiver your timbers, haul on your sheets and avast your behind as it brings back the memories of the fog and the cold icy waters of the southern oceans

There is something beautiful and enthrawling about the violin and the cello and since watching this movie and especially since listening to the soundtrack I will always hear the violins in the waves of the sea.
The last track - one by Bocherini, a composer whom I think should be as popular as Mozart or Beethoven I think really makes this sountrack what it is. Changeable and full of hidden energy.
Even without seeing the movie this soundtrack can be enjoyed, but of course it does help to visualise what you hear.
A good movie sountrack is one where you can feel and see the movie within it, it reflects the character and the memory of the movie on its own and not just thre to accompany dull scenese. (All depends on the movies of course - but this type of movie warrented an extra good soundtrack)
Definately worth the buy to relive the dramatic scenes and then bath in the beauty and thoughtful sounds of the string instruments.

I love the books, love the film, and now love the music!
Having never bought a film soundtrack before, I hadn't expected anything beyond a collection of the well-known pieces and the folk tunes. But this track is a really pleasant surprise. It's so atmospheric and, at times, so haunting, conjuring up the often breathtaking scenes from the film (it being one of the most underrated movies in my opinion).
The violin and cello pieces are particularly well-played. The folk tunes bring back happy childhood memories.
I'm only disappointed there has not been a sequel to this excellent film, and hence no appropriate sequel to this fine album. It has instantly become my favourite, and I play it for hours on end as I tap away at my computer.
If you are in any way displeased with this captivating music, you have no soul.

This is an excellent CD. I really bought it for the beautiful piece by Boccherini, because much film music is mood music, fitting the action but relatively unmemorable in its own right. (I was very disappointed, years ago, when I bought the 'Doctor Zhivago' LP!)

The recording quality is excellent, all the music specially written is lovely and is very definitely memorable in its own right, and I'm extremely glad I found it, and you to supply it.

Delivery was speedy, as always; service was excellent. I'm listening to it as I write!

As a huge fan of the film I rushed to buy the soundtrack soon after and I must say I was not disappointed! The music is beautifully composed, complementing the film perfectly. Even though my main preference is not classical music I frequently listen to this soundtrack as I find it highly relaxing; perfect for unwinding after a busy day.

Certainly recommended!
