1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing 26 Jun 2012

I thought this would be a quirky way of looking at spirituality. I was wrong. It's the same old same old regurgitated but dumbed down beyond belief. Stick to Eckhart Tolle or Adyashanti. They make sense of the fight with the ego without making you feel stoopid.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good advice on creating rewarding relationships! 16 Mar 2008
By Kara Lane - Published on Amazon.com
The book explains that the gremlin is the monster in your mind that makes you miserable by keeping you stuck in your head and thus diverting you from the peace and contentment in your heart. The author notes the gremlin-training method was fully explained in his original work, Taming the Gremlin.

This new book on A Master Class in Gremlin-Taming is primarily about how to create rewarding relationships, primarily through a method described in his acronym, I CREATE, which stands for:

I = Intention
C = Connection
R = Respect
E = Environment
A = Authenticity
T = Trust
E = Experience

He then goes on to elaborate on each of the above 7 keys for creating good relationships. For instance, in speaking of Respect, he provides ways in which we can inadvertently demonstrate a lack of respect for people, including such actions as:

- Interrupting
- Rushing to share a similar experience
- Habitual lateness
- Jumping to conclusions, and many more.

The book is an easy, fun read and offers some really good advice on relationships. The one thing I would note is that if you haven't read his earlier books, "Taming Your Gremlin" and/or "Taming Your Gremlin, revised edition," you might want to read them first. Throughout the book, he continually references the earlier books, even noting what page numbers certain topics were discussed on. If you haven't read the earlier books (I hadn't), you can feel like you're at a disadvantage due to the continual references to the earlier books.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is a Gift 26 Mar 2008
By N. Ferguson - Published on Amazon.com
I have been reading and re-reading Rick Carson's gremlin books for twenty years. It is not an overstatement to say that they have radically changed my life, from helping me manage some significant anxiety issues, to taking healthy risks, to letting go of crippling habits that blocked my happiness and hurt my relationships. So I was excited to find A Master Class and dive in, but I assumed it would be mostly a refresher-course with a few new twists for an old hand like me. Instead, I was blown away by Carson's ability to send me deeper than ever into my heart of hearts (at what seemed like warp speed), where clarity rules the day and gremlins take a powder. There was something new and illuminating on every page. As big a fan as I am, I did not realize gremlin-taming could take me that much further into the love-filled existence he introduced me to so long ago. I can't say enough about this book. It's a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transformative 24 April 2008
By Anita Harkey - Published on Amazon.com
Written with great wit and deceptive simplicity, this book goes directly to the heart of self-awareness, as opposed to analysis and judgment. Carson's guidance in getting a sliver of light between your mind's nay-sayer and your true self is insightful and practical. The freedom I experience by practicing his method of "just noticing" has enhanced relationship with self, family, friends, and counseling clients. The Zen Theory of Change--I change not by trying to change but by noticing how I am imprisoning myself in the moment--is effective and transformative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helping Me to Help Others 25 April 2008
By Jonah Carson - Published on Amazon.com
As a teacher and collegiate athletic coach I found "A Master Class in Gremlin Taming" to be extremely beneficial. Carson's Gremlin Taming method helps me be aware of the barriers I create that limit my potential. By being aware of my own blocks, I am able to help my students and athletes notice theirs as well. We can both then move toward unleashing our fullest potential.

While mastering Gremlin Taming is a life-long pursuit, I notice that the Method is easily applicable. It is for this reason I have given "A Master Class" and "Taming Your Gremlin" to All American athletes and Honor students. Often the difference between being good and being great is in their mentality.

I strongly suggest "A Master Class" and "Taming Your Gremlin" to any teacher or coach who wishes to help their students or athletes excel.

5.0 out of 5 stars He has grown as a writer and a teacher 7 April 2008
By R. Royne - Published on Amazon.com
Richard Carson's Master Class continues to illuminate the means by which Gremlin Taming can be practiced. He helps the reader to further enhance her/his the ability at being more consistently able to hold ones gremlin at bay. Mr. Carson, refers to his earlier Gremlin publications, to help the reader understand the practical methods to be practiced to free oneself from a gremlin. The vignettes are terrific, and i especially enjoyed and benefitted from his section on Creating Rewarding Relationships. His style of writing is clear and concise while maintaining a gentle voice for the reader to fully digest his ideas.
