Let's be honest, you're not going to get excited about a sharpening steel (which is probably a healthy thing); however, if you're looking for a steel then I can recommend this one.

I looked in several stores and found really expensive, over-prived steels (most costing more than the knife I wanted to sharpen) and then looked on Amazon and found this one costing at least four times less than its nearest rival in a store.

I bought it, it was cheap and my knife is now very sharp. Job done.

Scraping knives through a 'modern' block sharpener makes my teeth grate and so it was time to buy a proper steel sharpener (like my Dad used and his Dad used etc...). There's a bit of a knack to using this Acero Sharpening Steel but, with a bit of practice, it's easy and so satisfying getting a razor sharp edge to a blunt knife. Looks like it will last for years because it's steel.

This is a good solid steel that is a pleasure to use.

This steel will get your knives back to high sharpness and keep them that way.

Don't be fooled by cheap aluminium "sharpeners" that look like steels in supermarkets, They actually dull and blunt your blade... If you aren't sure if you have one of these at home, check the weight.. steel is heavier and the metal doesn't become black when you sharpen your knives on it (that's thin slivers of aluminium being taken off by your harder knife metal).

    A steal of a steel!
Smaller than most pros this still does a 1st rate job of keeping your blades sharp. Nicely weighted too. recommended as value for money.

I bought this last year as I was sick of trying to sharpen my knives on those cheap knife sharpeners that you can buy everywhere so I looked around for a proper sharpening steel. Read more

    Grand for the money
This works a treat. I've only got Viners block knifes from Argos anyway, so making them sharper, pays for itself. Read more

    Excellent knife sharpener
Great knife sharpener. It is cheaper than a lot of other steel ones and does a good job. Easy to get used to the technique as well. Now all my knifes are as good as new.

    Fine
Decent enough, good quality and fair price. Bizarre packaging though - huge box! and the product was tied tightly to the plastic with a very tight one way grip-tie.
