Bertie Bun was born to be a baker. His mum is a baker. His dad is a baker. Even his grandparents were bakers. But Bertie has a big problem - he's bored of bread! He wants to be a butcher's boy, or a bus-driver's boy or even a balloonist's boy - and his wishes are going to land him in lots of trouble .

Based on the classic 'Happy Families' card game, this highly entertaining series is ideal for reading and sharing at home or at school. It is guided by the Education Adviser, Brian Thompson, and written by the award-winning author, Allan Ahlberg.

'The best thing to happen to beginner readers since Dr Seuss' Children's Rights Workshop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant illustrations 9 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a humorous story of a boy who thinks 'the grass is greener' everywhere else, only to find he's best off in his own life. Beautifully and concisely written, with illustrations packed with endearing detail, warm and witty observation, and delightful humour. An absolute winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will buy more in series 6 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was bought on a whim for our 5yr old. What a hit it has turned out to be! We read the story and he reads the speech bubbles. 'The grass is always greener' is the basic premise and it is told with humour, much alliteration and detailed illustrations. It is the first we have read in the series and I guarantee more will be appearing in this house at Christmas.
