Fantastic book! It has become my DIY reference book of choice - good for learning about basic house maintenance as well as more major projects. It has given me the knowledge and confidence to have a go without needing a man about the house!

A genuinely valuable document. It is full of information on subjects both large and small and gives advice, not only on how work should be done, but also why and why not it should be carried out in particular ways. I especially like the Insights and Tips stressing brief points, often on safety or expert tricks of the trade. One of the few books on DIY that is well worth reading as well as keeping for reference.

After recently purchasing my first property and facing the daunting task of doing it up with little knowledge of anything DIY, I decided it would be a good idea to search the net and purchase a book to help walk me through all jobs I was going to have to tackle.
After much searching and deliberation over the great many books available on this subject, I decided to settle with Master Basic DIY as from the preview it seemed to cover all the tasks I was to face, all explained in an easy to understand way.
Although I still have a huge mountain to climb in terms of the number of jobs I still have to do, the jobs that I have tackled successfully are all thanks to this book as without it I'm 100% sure I would have increased my list of tasks substatially due to the fact that I would have seriously messed then up!!

not the best
Bought as a gift and a bit of a joke for my daughter's young non-practical boyfriend, but I have to say, on first viewing, it is not very good for a pure beginner. Read more

DIY book
For the price I paid this book is very good, it covers most of what you want to know as a rough guide, well worth the money paid for it. No complaints.

Not just how - But why !
I was amazed when I flicked through this book when I was at the National Home Improvement Show. It is quite clearly written by someone who "knows their stuff" inside out. Read more
