5.0 out of 5 stars A great all-round digital multimeter 15 Mar 2012
A chunky, easy to use and yet powerful product! I haven't had a chance to test all its features like the capacitance or the transistor metering modes but all modes I have used have worked just as expected!

It's backlit, the display is big and easy to read, the units are automatically displayed and it lights up and tells you where to put your connections, even beeping when jacks are inserted in the wrong ports.

Perfect for a beginners and professionals alike and I reckon rugged and hard wearing enough to last a long time. Having used a few cheaper products before, in this case paying the little bit extra was worth it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well built... 14 Mar 2012
I haven't gotten to use it extensively, but my first impression is that it is solid. It is larger than I thought it would be and has some weight to it, but at least that inspires some confidence. I was worried about breaking the last multi-meter inexpensive meter I had trying to install the battery. The leads seem quality, with about a meter length. For the price it is a step up from just the cheapies that you usually get for 10 quid.

Since writing this review it is NOW listed as a Mastech/Sinometer

1st things first it is Not a "Mastech" but a "Sinometer" AC/DC Auto/Manual Range Digital Multimeter, MS8268
But If that doesn't bother you then fire ahead.
It is quite large and stands up nicely on its fold out kick stand, It has a very nice large display although
the backlight stays on for only a few seconds, rather annoying as it has an auto power off!
The continuity tester is also a wee bit annoying as it is not the default notch on the dial and the manufacturer has
decided that you are more lightly to wish to test a diode than check continuity. The audible beep is also not exactly
ear splitting and I found myself glancing at the meter to check it had beeped.
It would be nice, on such a large meter to have a place to store the attachment for testing transistors, capacitors etc.. as these parts can
so easily become lost, there are however two slots on the rear to clip on the probes.
Apart from these initial gripes it seems pretty good , the probes supplied are very nice quality and the
autoranging is certainly worth the extra 4 over the MS8261 as you can switch to manual if you realy feel you need to.
So far on my limited testing, I am happy with this meter and would recomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy ease to use tool 17 Dec 2011
By Koen
Looking for an affordable multimeter that can stand somewhat heavier usage I came across this item. It seemed much better built than the typical low-cost multimeter and has auto ranging, a real time saver. I have it now a couple of weeks and it certainly lived up to its promise. It is a full-size unit and has a large back-lit very clear display. The auto ranging is really fast and the rotary switch feels sturdy as well. The measuring leads are also of a good quality. All in all, I expect this unit to last much longer than my previous multimeters.
Delivery (from UK to Netherlands) was quick, earlier than promised. Unit was well packed.

5.0 out of 5 stars More for my Buck 1 July 2012
Verified Purchase
After doing a lot of research on getting a new multimeter, this product came up with reviews that put it in an affordable price range but with features of much more expensive products. I checked it's accuracy and it's CAT ratings which passed muster for the money and for my amature electronics requirements.
With a Diode tester which plugs in to it supplied and an audable continuity test along with auto ranging it covers the basics and some. I was a little disapointed the diode tester is not built in but a "H" shaped dongle that plugs into the front. There is nowhere to attach it when not in use and could be easily lost if you are not careful but I can live with this minor quibble. The screen is large and bright in sunlight (which if not, could have made it difficult to read) and it comes with a inbuilt stand. This won't keep it upright on a sloapy car bonnet but works well on a flat table. The case seems suitable and should stand up to accidental knock or two. If you're going to throw a delicate piece of electronic equipment about though maybe you should stick to a lightbulb and some crocodile clips.
I'm very happy with this multimeter and even happier about the price which was the same as some other brands which had terrible reviews online.
Anyone thinking of purchasing this should obviously search out the independent reviews and You-tube Video reviews, write down what they need on their meter, what they would desire on their meter and if the quality and accuracy of the meter suits it's purpose. For me this had everything except a temperature sensor that I could possibly need and I was happy to forgo that feature (that I may never use) in return for the price point this is at.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good bit of kit let down by poor manufacturing. 12 Sep 2013

On paper this is a real good deal. The meter has some superb features only usually found on more expensive units. I couldn't afford a fluke, so went for this.

Feature wise its super, nice back light, auto-ranging is handy, the test lead sockets even light up to indicate which holes to plug your leads into - all good! Leads are of good quality and the transistor tester is also very handy.

Now the bad, as others have mentioned its let down by the manufacturing of the actual case. The green part in the photo is a rubbery material - it is just a very bad fit, especially around the edges (where is meets the hard black plastic). The green part on mine was gaping open at the edges.

I was going to return for a refund, but liked the meter so much, I took the green rubber part off, cleaned up the sides, replaced and carefully put some super glue in the edges where it wont hold - it now looks and works perfectly.

I realise you shouldn't have to repair brand new products, but the meter is actually very good! If your willing to put up with the badly fitting green rubber part or happy to do a bit of DIY on it, then you'll love this meter, especially at this price!

Would have been 5/5 if it wasn't for me having to repair it, hence 3/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent meter.
This meter is exellent for the price and should perform most measurments well, hard to justify buying a more expensive meter for home use.

The multimeter itself is very good but much bigger than other multimeters. The item was shipped from Hong Kong and arrived with no English manual.

Works quite well indeed for the price. Auto range not too slow not too fast. Continuity test surprisingly fast. Slow reading rate and stabilizing time, even on voltage reader.
