Introducing the Mass Fidelity Relay

Mass Fidelity's Relay streams music wirelessly from any Bluetooth enabled device, such as a smartphone or tablet, to any audio system. It allows listeners to enjoy a limitless universe of high definition digital music through their existing hifi audio system. Relay is a true high fidelity component that brings out the full sound quality potential that is hidden inside the Bluetooth protocol

Hi-Fi Bluetooth Receiver

There has been a revolution in the way people access and enjoy music. The proliferation of smart devices, music streaming services, and digital music files have made it more convenient than ever before to access a virtually limitless library of music... anywhere, anytime.

Left behind in this revolution is, regrettably, the traditional hifi audio system that can be found in virtually every home. One - box speakers, docks and table radios whose sound quality ranges from "pretty good for the size" to absolutely dreadful have usurped the hifi audio system's place in the home. Even average quality hifi audio systems deliver far better high impact bass, midrange warmth, high frequency clarity, and life like stereo separation than any wired or wireless dock or table radio on the market. But traditional audio systems don't allow easy access to the full range of music source options.

These days you simply don't want to change CDs or "hard wire" your smart devices to your hifi system. You want the freedom to switch music source with the swipe of a finger and wander about the house, untethered. You want choice. You want freedom. You want the Relay.

You also want superior fidelity

Mass Fidelity are music lovers who appreciate the freedom and choice afforded by smart devices and who also appreciate the involvement and emotion that only a high fidelity audio system can reveal. They were determined to find a way of having it all - convenience and fidelity. It is from this inspiration that Relay was born...

Relay has two gold-plated RCA jacks that can operate either as analog or digital outputs. Simply connect the supplied RCA-RCA signal cable from Relay's L&R outputs to the RCA analog inputs of any audio system. For systems that have 3.5mm "mini" jack input, use the supplied RCA-mini cable.

Listeners who prefer to use an outboard DAC or the digital input of a surround receiver can do so by holding the rear-panel control button for 5 seconds until the pilot light turns orange. Connect either output jack to the digital input of the amp, receiver or DAC. Relay can feed two digital streams at the same time. For example you can feed one digital output to a surround receiver or your system's primary DAC and the other to a headphone amp/DAC combo unit.

Easy Pairing

Pairing a smart device to Relay is a snap. Push the control button on the back of the unit briefly; the pilot LED will glow white. Relay automatically goes into pairing mode and initiates the software that synchronizes Relay and the Bluetooth device. Make sure Bluetooth is activated in you smart device, select "Relay" from the list of available devices and ta da, you're ready to rock.

In households where more than one person uses the system or when guests want to share their music through Relay and the hifi system, PartyPairing and TurboPairing come into play. Party Pairing eliminates a step in switching from one source device to another. Just turn Bluetooth off in the first device, turn BT on in the second and select Relay as the device. There is no need to reset Relay and press it's control button a second time.

The Relay can connect to only one smart device at a time; however it is capable of remembering up to six devices. Once a device has paired with Relay, TurboPairing remembers it to speed up pairing at a later time. Once more than six devices have been paired the oldest device is discarded. To add a device back into TurboPairing memory, simply reconnect the device.

The relay is compatible with any device supporting Bluetooth streaming, whether it's a smartphone, tablet or laptop (Mac/PC), and with all digital music and streaming services like Spotify or Pandora.

The relay doesn't require any external apps or software in order to give you full control! Simply PLUG the relay into your home audio or home theater system, CONNECT to your smart device and press PLAY!

I cant be the only person with the family pestering me to stop using my trust hifi, and cave and follow the Sonos bandwagon, despite its questionable acoustic?

Anyway, after the wife and kids continued to complain about why they couldnt play their music through our sound set up, i caved in and bought the the best Bluetooth Streamer i could find after researching the forums.

Thats right, they want to use my magic system to stream their ropey mp3s, stream spotify etc through my treasured audio system. My vinyl is being shunned, and my CD's fighting to stay in the room.........

Ease of use wise its awesome - genuine sub 1 minute set up - plug and play, and off it goes.

Despite using Bluetooth on my better tracks, lossless for example, the playback from this unit is staggering. Yes you can do similar for cheaper, but I'd challenge anyone to find a product of this quality.

Everything about this unit shouts quality - from the packaging, to the machining, to the quality of the componentry, the finish of the product (its looks like its been machined from Aluminium billet), the connectors.

It came as no surprise to subsequently find out that the designer owns a sound studio himself.

Often tricky to buy a brand you may have no heard of but in this instance rest easy!

I've been struggling to keep a hold of my classic 90s hifi system - something that was built up with great love and still sounds fantastic today. Problem being it's not able to connect to any online services - and like it or not, music is moving towards streaming sources.

So, when I was told about this bit of kit that adds a high quality (apt-X compatible) bluetooth receiver as an auxiliary source, I was intrigued. Read a couple of blog and magazine reviews, which assured me it would not be a waste of money with my phone (Sony Z1 - which has apt-X) so I took the plunge.

Unpacking, I was really impressed at the high quality case - milled from a single piece of aluminium, in macbook style. Also, the included interconnects seem really good quality. Power supply looks to be a fairly standard unit, but I've heard no noise from it, so it's perfectly fit for purpose.

Using the Z1 streaming spotify on "Extreme" quality, you genuinely can't tell the difference from a CD reproduction. That's on a high-spec system. I also have a 1st Gen iPad, which doesn't use apt-x and while it's not quite as crisp as the Z1's implementation, it's still really clean, with no noticeable carrier signal or artifacts. The pickup strength is really strong too - I never suffer dropout until I'm well out of the room that the stereo is in! Pairing is incredibly quick and very robust.

Not something I need for my older stereo system, but it's worth pointing out that the manual states the Outputs can also be configured to run as digital SPDIF - which I don't think they make too obvious with it not having a dedicated digital output in the images.

I have to say that this fits my needs perfectly. The ability to stream, as well as play audio from anything that my phone or iPad is outputting really sways me here - the quality is top notch and it's incredibly straightforward to use. Well recommended!

A well made, slick looking box that any audiophile would like in there rack. But only one problem, a flat and uninspiring sound. For the money this piece of kit should knock your socks off, but it never quite makes it. I sent mine back and bought an Arcam mini Blink. Both use the same burr brown Dac, but the Arcam has a performance 10 times better! And is half the price, so with the money you save, invest in a decent interconnect and sit back and enjoy the music from your phone/tablet/etc!

Great piece of kit and idiot proof to set up, you may think the cost is prohibitive but you get what you pay for and the sound quality is tremendous. If you love music you have to have one of these.
