I played (& replayed) ME1 & 2 and all the DLC and eagerly awaited this sequel - I bought the N7 CE because I was a fanboy!
First thing to note is: it's short. Compared to the other two games, VERY short - length was / is no doubt going to be added via paid-for DLC. That said, you do (rather incongrously, given that this is one of the best SINGLE-PLAYER games franchises on the market) get online multiplayer and will NEED to play this if you want to get the 'best' ending.
The graphics & combat are much improved over previous versions but NPC interactions and plot are much worse with little to shout about in either area and everything feels downbeat, rushed and depressing.
I WAS going to go into detail about the pros & cons of this game but frankly I don't have the heart - it's time to talk about the enormous pachyderm in the room.
You see, Bioware & EA encouraged the player to invest in the characters and the universe of ME, and brilliantly gave us the feeling that our decisions mattered and had an impact on the game. They even told us explicitly that this would be especially true in this final chapter of the Commander Shepard story as the ending would reflect and incorporate all our choices from the previous games - fantastic!
Unfortunately, they lied.
99% of the game is great (despite its many flaws) but the last 1% is so stupefyingly awful that I just sat there after the game ended, staring at the screen for long minutes wondering how I'd messed up so badly to get such an appalling ending. It turns out I hadn't - Bioware had, as ALL (!) 3 of the possible endings are equally bad (and pretty much identical).

I have played this game several times, and its amazing, graphics are fine, not as good as they could be, but that's the argument of games being designed for a console and not a pc. I now just play the multiplayer online part which is great.

I've been a fan of mass effect since the beginning so you can imagine my disappointment at how this game has turned out. its far too short, a lot of the side quests that made the first two games great are gone in this iteration. and the idea of choice and actions having consequences is removed almost completely. save for two occasions and the ending. combat is the nicest its been but it is now far too easy. the assets system is a nice touch but is nearly impossible to fail so mostly cosmetic. won't go into the ending sequence.

in terms of the collectors edition the metal case and artbook are very nice. in game weapons given are a good touch though the day one dlc you get for free feels like it should be in the original game anyway

Not the best place to start in the series but from fans it's received a mixed reception due to the infamous ending. This issue aside the gameplay is tight, multiplayer is actually well executed and despite a frustrating lack of consequence of actions the story is (for the most part) great.

The items that come with the collector's edition are wholly unimpressive sadly.

Amazing collection and amazing game (much better from Mass Effect 2 in my opinion), definitely worth the money. Also try it to y without the extended cut because it's totally worth it.

Shame no one can get it anymore, the collectors edition not the game, you can get the game anywhere for far less now.

Having played the hell out of Mass Effect 1 and 2 I was eagerly anticipating the release of Mass Effect 3, and my word did Bioware deliver!

The ante is upped considerably, and and choices you make now feel so much more important. There are many heart-wrenching scenes and even in the midst of war many hilarious ones; particulary anything involving Joker/EDI.

Overall the game improves on it's predecessors; finding the right line between streamlining and customisation; taking input from both ME1 and ME2. The combat is more fluid, the graphics look better, the voice acting is superb. Especially for Male Shep which has until now has not been as good as the fantastic voice acting of femshep.

For 30-40 hours then, this is the game we were all expecting, and for that it's easily a 5-star game that everyone should buy. However, the last 10 minutes or so makes absolutely no sense. Without going into spoilers it seems to make the choices and fighting you've done in the previous 100+ hours or so worthless. Judging from the reponse on forums etc, most people seem to agree with this. On top of that, it seems some of the content was cut in a very KOTOR 2 esque fashion.

Therefore, a fantastic game to end the series but an absolutely awful 10 minutes to end the series.
