Product Description

Large Mixed bristle and nylon pneumatic rubber cushion hair brush with dark ruby coloured handle. Regular brushing plays an important part in the condition of your hair. The Mason Pearson hairbrush cleans the hair, stimulates the scalp increasing blood flow to the roots. A natural conditioning oil--sebum--comes from a gland at the base of every hair; brushing spread it along the length of the hair giving it strength, suppleness and producing a healthy sheen.
Mason Pearson hairbrushes have a unique rubber-cushion pad, along with the classic handle design for added comfort. The design has never been bettered since its original 1885 design and is still being handmade with only the finest materials.

"HOW much?"
Usually uttered at a pitch only a dog is capable of hearing, this is the comment that usually greets me when, after waxing lyrical about the brush's properties, I happen to mention its cost.
I imagine the cost may put some people off buying this brush in favour of a cheaper option. To those people i say "Accept no substitutes, they're crap".
I've previously been very enthusiastic about the Tangle Teezer but it has nothing on a good, old-fashioned Mason Pearson.
While it's true the initial retail price of the MP is much higher, the oldie is worth its weight in gold while the young pretender is only worth its weight in...well, plastic.
The TT will ease knots out of hair, fine and thick but so will the MP. However unlike the TT, the MP will make your hair supershiny by virtue of the boar bristles.
The MP will also last you much longer; every brush comes with it's own cleaning brush and they are very sturdy. My grandmother has one, still in regular use, that was chewed by a long-dead dog while I still own the BN4 i was given as a child. Slightly battered it goes everywhere with my while my BN1 takes pride of place on my dressing table.
It's often said that hair should be brushed with 100 strokes. With a Mason pearson each and every one of those is a pleasure.

I bought this for my daughter's birthday (on the recommendation of my wife - I really don't understand these things, but nowadays I don't have too much hair to worry about).

My daughter was delighted and uses the brush at every opportunity. From the feedback, I would not hesitate to recommend this product - particularly to males who have run out of gift ideas for birthdays, Christmas etc. Apparently this is the creme de la creme of hair brushes and marks you out as thoughtful, generous and caring.

I had one of these brushes for over 20 years and I never went anywhere without it. Unfortunately, because I DID take it everywhere, I left it in a hotel last week. I was bereft and had to order a new one straight away. I had no hesitation ordering another one because they are the ultimate in hair brushing. They stimulate the scalp, they make your hair glossy and they take out all manner of tangles. I can't recommend this hairbrush enough.

There have been a lot of doubts over the authenticity of Mason Pearson brushes sold on Amazon. I'd recently bought a brush on Amazon and decided to contact Mason Pearson for a price comparison which is when they told me that there were plenty of forgeries on the market. I decided to return the brush, unopened, letting Amazon know that i was worried it was a fake. Unfortunately this and a couple of similar complaints by other customers resulted in the seller being taken off the Amazon Marketplace. This is when i contacted Mason Pearson again and with the information they provided, i checked out the brush, kindly provided to me from the Amazon seller in question. I also compared it with an older brush i had, which was bought directly from the manufacturer.
For starters, the quality of both the brushes was absolutely the same. The same packaging, the same good quality hard plastic, the same rubber pad etc.
I've outlined a general guide below-(this was for my large pure boar bristle hairbrush, model B1)-
1) The name on the handle should be in goldblocking and sunken into the plastic.
2) The name on the handle should say:
The
Mason Pearson
London England
Pure Bristle (varies with brush type)
3) There should be a hole at the end of the brush only, the side opposite to the handle.
4) There should be 16 rows (or 8 rings) of tufts (varies with brush size)
5) When you squeeze down on the brush you should hear it whistle or wheeze as the air flows out of the cushion and the cushion should bounce back at the same speed.
6) This is for the ruby brushes only- at first glance the plastic on the handle seems almost black, but when you hold it up against light, it glows a wonderful deep ruby red.

This is a beautiful brush to hold and use but unfortunately for me it's no good as the bristles are too short for my hair thickness. I bought this one because it was recommended as being good for long thick hair! I would say it's ideal for much thinner hair than mine

As I'd used it I couldn't return it so this was a very expensive mistake

My wife had worn out her previous Mason Pearson after nearly 60 years, so to her delight I bought her another, which she intends to use - with pleasure, for the next sixty

I bought this as a present for a family member. In our family, we are at least 3 generations of using Mason Pearson brushes. Why? Because they are that good. They work through tangles easily - with my long hair that is a big plus. 2 great bonuses. Because they are great quality they last for years and years. Maybe because they are valuable, one looks after them better and is less likely to lose them. that's my theory anyway!
