A terrific book that is particularly good at describing his early upbringing when he would on occasion not be scared to challenge 'traditional' views about how an individual should earn and deserve respect and then at capturing the excitement and anticipation that surrounded the birth of Botswana as an independent state. In itself that is a heartening tale of cooperation and respect between the colonial administrators at the time and the newly emerging national political leaders amongst whom Quett Masire was of course very prominent. The author also shares very valuable insights into his leadership style, which was of course extremely successful both prior to, during and after his long stint as president - the book should be on the reading lists of any African degree programmes in politics and / or leadership. Anyone involved in the birth and early nurture of South Sudan would do well to have it on their shelves!
