Review from http://www.thecultureofme.com/
The only true way to make a great electronic record is to really not make an electronic record, but rather to make a record that embraces the idea that there is no such thing as a great electronic record; there is in fact only a such thing as a great record.
Mashpop & Punkstep is that great record. There are no genre boundaries within, as bouncing dubstep and deep house meld with operatic aria covers ("O Mio Babbino Caro") and bass line bangers ("Burn Burn Burn"). Mashpop combines elements from every sector of modern music, the punchy "Ready For The Fight" just two steps away from the J-pop (post-1995) of "SugarCandySuperNova" and so on, creating a hybrid record that could only have been made in 2010. There is every genre imaginable bent and broken up and blended as well together as a Magic Bullet shake of house and techno, rave up and dubstep, hip hop, synth rock, progressive, drum 'n' bass, indie rock, metal--all combining to make one of the best "pop" records we've heard in years. The trio have always been mad scientists and this set might just be their best potion ever.
