The Mash Up Mix essentially takes instrumentals and vocals from various well known dance tracks and blend them together to create entirely new versions.
What with the plethora of 90's revival dance compilations out lately, it was only a matter of time before MoS took this idea to the next level by getting the Cut Up Boys to create a 90's mash up.
Of course, by 90's, what's meant is super-cheesy chart-bothering dance-pop from the likes of Sash!, Whigfield, Outhere Brothers, 2 Unlimited and The Shamen. Perhaps not ideal for the more serious clubber, but if these are the tracks you jumped about to at your local youth club/nightclub/school disco when you were a teenager, this is the perfect nostalgia trip!
On top of this, the mixing is something to behold. From the opening track on CD one, where they've managed to intricately splice SIX tracks together, to very simple ideas like simply overlaying Sandy B's `Make The World Go Round' directly over The Farm's `Groovy Train', the Cut Up Boys are once again at the top of their game.
My only small criticism is that one or two of the Acappella's used are cover versions of the original vocal, but this may be due to licensing or even pitching issues and they don't spoil the overall experience.
Overall though, this is an utterly genius mix, the most accessible and fun mash up mix in the series so far and a perfect party soundtrack for those who remember the good ol' days!
