Product Description

Product Description

After establishing its name through racing success, Maserati built some of the world's most desirable sports cars during the 1960s and '70s. After a period in the doldrums in the 1980s and '90s, the marque has emerged during the past ten years and is making some great cars again under the stewardship of parent company Fiat. The new Quattroporte in particular is one of the finest cars Maserati has ever built. This is an essential addition to the "Haynes 'Classic Makes'" series, blending history and technical information with driving impressions and buying hints.

The obscurist's choice 15 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
I've always enjoyed Martin Buckley's column in Classic & Sportscar; a perennial supporter of the automotive underdog it comes as no surprise to me that he is behind this excellent book.

Written in a slightly drier style than his aforementioned magazine work nontheless Buckley's enthusiasm for Italy's most interesting (& not always for the right reasons!) motoring marque shines through and at the current price this volume will give much pleasure for the cost of three car magazines.

I would have liked a little more insight with regards to the author's own experiences and purchases which would no doubt have been riddled with pathos, however as this book is part of Haynes ongoing classic make series I appreciate that there is a template to follow.

All in all then an excellent read though the one question still perplexes me: considering the timeless style and sophistication of the 60's & 70's Maseratis why do I hold an irrational hankering for one of the de Tomaso "wilderness-era" 80's boxes; Karif anyone?

A book 7 Feb 2011
Format:Hardcover
Yep, good book, nice pictures, well written with interesting 'what's it like to drive' section. Also a buying guide at the end of each section. Clearly written by a big fan of Masers, which means you need to take some of the comments with a pinch of salt. The QPIV was not 'handsome', for example!
