More About the Author

Judy Howard began a dog grooming career at the age of eleven in the basement of her parents' home and continues her career today as the owner of The Canine Beauty Salon where she resides with her cat, Sportster, in Sun City, California.
After her husband's death in 2004, Judy was inspired to pursue writing and traveling. Both genres are covered in her first book, a memoir titled, COAST TO COAST WITH A CAT AND A GHOST.
GOING HOME WITH A CAT AND A GHOST is Judy's second book. A fictional tale of mystery and romance appealing to everyone in the second half of their life who have asked themselves, "What if?"
Judy is currently working on her third novel, INVISIBLE HEREOS, coming out in 2013.

Recommend, despite some issues 2 Aug. 2014

I give this book five stars for characters and topic. If you know a wounded warrior, love dogs, or want a great story about second chances, read Masada's Marine.

Because this book could have been much improved with proofreading, I have to give it three stars in the grammar and technical aspects category. I have read all of Judy Howard's books and was looking forward to this one after the sneak peek at the end of her second book. However, as much as I anticipated the release of this book, I would have been happier to have waited a bit longer for a better put together volume.

My average score for this book is four stars. I do plan to read the other books in the series, as they are released, as I enjoyed getting to know Masada and all the humans in her life and look forward to seeing where life takes them next.
Realistic Read 7 April 2015

As a retired VA Nurse, I can tell you that the author knew her subjects well. Alex and Sarah experienced a marriage post Iraqi. Alex desires to do the right thing but must face daily the trauma recall from fighting a war that made no sense, where children were used to kill and be killed themselves. The violent side effects of PTSD does most certainly ruin families. The introduction of therapy dogs is a fairly new concept for our military returning now. However, the VA has been using service dogs for our blind veterans for years. Masada's Marine is the best read! I wanted to just hug Masada!

I just finished reading Masada’s Marine. It was a tough read for me because I suffer from a form of stress disorder. I am 73 and it has influenced most of my life. You can’t explain the emotions even when you have experienced them personally but Judy has managed to capture many of the triggers in this book. The ability of dogs to connect emotionally with people suffering from emotional disorders is a very beneficial tool. Thank God for the dedicated trainers who recognize and train service dogs.

An eye opener about PTSD and service dogs 9 Dec. 2014

A powerful and educational book. I had no idea of the effects of PTSD on veterans and of the lifesaving impact of specially trained service dogs. A valuable and needed book for anyone affected by PTSD. Thank you, Judy Howard, for addressing this critical problem. PS I fell in love with Masada as I followed her journey to becoming a service dog. Judy Howard's extensive research made this real!

I h a d the privilege of reviewing this book as it was partially written. My grandfather received his seeing eye dog in 1945; so I am aware of the impact on a person's life. It is well researched and written. I only used 1/2 box of tissue. Unlike Alex I have no problems showing emotions. I recommend reading this as a way of expanding knowledge of PTSD and the pain our vets go through.
