Nice film ... shame about the sync., 27 Oct 2004
By A Customer

This is a lovely film.
Serena Scott Thomas plays a convincing Hebe who can harness
men in her train with her sweet nature and beauty.
However, 1 hour and 15 minutes into the film, the audio becomes out of sync with the picture. The transfer of the picture is somewhat grainy as well.
Such a disappointment.

A jolly film, 12 Dec 2009
This review is from: Mary Wesley's Harnessing Peacocks [1992] [DVD] (DVD)
An enjoyable film - much better than the lower-scoring reviews suggest. Scenery (Wiltshire, Cornwall, Scilly) attractive. The carnival scenes were good. The 'other' Scott-Thomas is a pleasure to watch.

Harnessing Peacocks, a great favourite, 10 Feb 2012
This review is from: Mary Wesley's Harnessing Peacocks [1992] [DVD] (DVD)
Harnessing Peacocks is not slick, has no overdeveloped hero's bristling with light artillery, no foul language, no overt sex and no vehicles, aircraft, ships or people are vaporized in balls of flames. For those reasons, and others, the film may be a disappointment to some.
It's escapism rather than real life of course, but escapism delivered by a superb selection of actors, including but not only the great John Mills. He, along with the captivating Serena Scott Thomas and her screen son Silas (perfectly played by young Tom Beasley), take us on a gentle, enchanting and thoroughly enjoyably trip set in an equally enjoyable landscape.
Overall the casting is perfect and hammy they are certainly not. Perhaps a tiny bit over the top at times, and tongue in cheek at others, but as I said, it is fiction. It's also amusing, it's delightful, and it shouldn't be missed.
