5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Poppins - Practically Perfect in Every Way 18 Dec 2009
Format:Audio CD
As a big Mary Poppins fan, I was really glad when this CD arrived it came within two or three days and i was really pleased. On this CD, it not only has all the well loved Disney Mary Poppins songs on it, it also has the fantasic Orcestral arrangements on it too. This would make a fabulous gift for any Disney Fan. Its well worth its money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Poppins Special Edition Music CD 6 May 2013
Format:Audio CD
Practically perfect in every way.

The Sherman Brothers who composed the music to 'Mary Poppins' created a musical masterpiece. I had owned a previously released 'Mary Poppins' CD which contained all the main songs but omitted the instrumental music. Thankfully, this special edition version was released containing seemingly all the music that was in the feature film.

The wonderfully sad and mellow instrumental track, 'Mr. Banks is Discharged' is 4:45 minutes in length and is a joy to listen to. With soft, light instruments following on to a deep loud bass sound. The music has a mix of fast and slow tempos, an uneasy, uncertain path;echoing perfectly the trip Mr. Banks took in the film to the bank.

As a bonus there are all sorts of storyboard audio clips with P.L. Travers - the author of 'Mary Poppins', speaking with the Sherman Brothers along with Don DiGradi, which gives an insight into the construction of the feature film. The Sherman Brothers also reminisce in a 16 minute audio track about working on 'Mary Poppins'. Also, there is an interview lasting 17 minutes with Julie Andrews, Robert B Sherman, Richard M Sherman, Dick Van Dyke and Irwin Kostal.

'The Life I Lead', 'A Spoonful Of Sugar', 'Jolly Holiday', 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', 'I Love To Laugh', 'A British Bank' and 'A Man Has Dreams (The Life I Lead - A Spoonful of Sugar) are all here.

Highly recommended for fans of 'Mary Poppins' and people who enjoy soundtracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect compliment to the 40th anniversary DVD set! 15 May 2005
By Robert Badgley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
With the release of the 40th Anniversary two-disc edition of Mary Poppins onto DVD(see my review)there is nothing that could compliment it better than this two disc special edition of the Mary Poppins soundtrack onto CD.

This soundtrack now mirrors the movie as no other release before has done. The music now plays and appears in the order that it does in the movie. Also new background and bridging music has been added to either expand existing cuts or released on its' own.It is an absolute joy to hear and is the closest thing to actually watching the movie itself.

And if this newly remastered soundtrack wasn't enough Disney has added a bonus disc. The first cut consists of approximately 41 minutes of the original six hour meeting of the author of the Mary Poppins books,Mrs. P. Travers, going through a rough version of the story with Disney staff.

The second is a 17 minute interview with the two main stars Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews, the Sherman brothers(responsible for most of the music) and the musical director Irwin Kostal.

The third and last track is the Sherman brothers reminiscing for about 16 minutes on their work on the picture.

Like the DVD extras these CD extras are very revealing, educational and generally enhance ones' viewing of and experience with the movie.

There is only one Mary Poppins soundtrack you MUST own and it is THIS one.Get yours.

If you have never seen the movie, buy this CD and you will hear the happiness of people in the movie. If you have seen the movie, listen this CD in closing your eyes and you will see the movie in your head. It is really an excellent CD with a quality recording. Read the other critics written by other people. This CD is a fabulous one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary is 'Top of the Pops' 12 Aug 2005

My whole family loves this cd. In fact, we recently took a road trip and took it along and my 4 year-old daughter loves to sing to just about every song. She also likes to hear some songs more than once. The soundtrack cd can be listened to all the way through. One of the all time great albums. The second cd is great for people who like to have some behind the scenes. This cd is an A+ for my daughters aged 4 and 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Jolly Holiday! 19 Nov 2004

Mary Poppins: 2 Disc CD Soundtrack is very Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Since getting it in the mail today I have been listening to it any spare second I find. You are never to old to listen to this wonderfully done music. It is a Broadway style musical movie with wonderful singers Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The extra music that was not included in previous released CDs make this a must! I know I will enjoy this CD for years to come and recommand it strongly for anyone else who enjoys Mary Poppins, Disney, or Broadway style music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practically Perfect... 20 Jun 2007
By allandale - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
A really wonderful re-issue of this classic score, made even richer by the inclusion of much of the orchestral score. My only quibble, rather small, is that the expanded overture heard on the original lp has not been included. That overture goes on a little longer than the film version and is quite beautiful. Has this version been on any cd issue of the soundtrack? As I said, small point, and this cd belongs in every soundtrack collection - it's just great - and far better than the current stage version.
