Enlightening view. 10 Sep 2005
Format:DVD
How come I have not heard of this film before? I rate it somehow even more than 'The Passion' for it's overview of the life of Jesus, incorporating Mary's role and person.

Great charachterisation of Mary- not always so meek! Lovely view of their relationship. Very real.

Also...this film definitely brings alive the charachter of Joseph - the foster father of Jesus and other persons involved in the events of Jesus life, the disciples, Mary's parents, her cousin Elizabeth, John the Baptist, Herod, Pilate, Mary Magdalene...

The sense of the political situation at the time is put across effectively. These certainly seem 'little' people in the big power 'cogs' of the time.

To compare fairly with 'The Passion'...I guess this film whisks through the events of Christs suffering and death...however the dread of that final event certainly is there throughout... The film succeeeds in bringing through a sense of the power of that sacrifice.

Some clangers theologically - which is a pity...Mary would never have said her mother Anna would never be more merciful than God himself...! The Gospels communciate clearly that God cannot be surpassed in anything...much less mercy!

Great ending. Resurrection subtly but powerfully portrayed. How amazing that news of the Christ spreads through the world from such times, and events and very human people.

It is vitally important that we understand the roll Mary played in the most important events in the history of the world. It may be a Christian's impossible goal to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ - to be like Jesus. Jesus was totally human, but also totally divine. However, we must remember that Mary was totally human and only human. She answered God's call and gave her life to God - something that all Christians must also try to do.
This film is probably the best film of its type. It takes some slight liberties, but these are all excusable as they do accurately put across the position and the obvious influence Mary had. Theologically this wonderful film makes many valid points and in a very watchable and strongly moving way helps us to get closer to Mary, the mother of Jesus - The Mother of God.
A wonderful Christmas present - a wonderful film

A beautiful Film 29 May 2008
Format:DVD
I had mixed feelings about this film before watching it.
Will it be as good as The Passion Of The Christ?
Well it was a beautiful and emotional film.
I cried with Mary and also found the story very moving seeing it through the eyes of the Mother Of Jesus.
I would put it up there with The Passion Of The Christ.

A Mother's Love
A very heartfelt film about a mother's love for her son. This tells the story of Jesus from Mary's point of view. Read more

The story of Jesus through a mother's eyes
This film does take some dramatic licence as stated but it makes you go back to the scripture to read GOD's WORD. The film covers the life of Mary & Jesus. Read more

Good adaptation with strong performances
I've watched a lot of versions of the gospel story, and this is definitely one of my favourites. They have taken what the Bible says and created a believable dialogue. Read more

Big idea, short story
It's short and not intensive. It's like to describe your life as "born-lived-dead".
We see how Mary is brave and how she suffers, but life of Jesus almost a white page. Read more

You can believe too.
No comment. Probably the best movie about the life and doings of chosen girl, who became mother of God's son. If you don't believe yet, you can start now.

About the human Jesus, not about Mary
This film is not primarily a film about Mary, but rather an attempt to explain the human nature of Jesus, through Mary. It is not very convincing at all! Read more
