Maureen Peters has written a great many novels - many of them are quite good - and this effort on Mary Tudor is one of them. The author has an engaging style of writing and this book is very readable. Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary to her enemies, of which I am NOT one) has taken a fair amount of flak over the years but this little novel is reasonably sympathetic towards her.
There are novels, and there are novels. Some are novels based on mainly fact, and some are novels based mainly on fiction, and this little book comes into the second category. As a loyal Marian however, I found this book to be a pleasant and interesting read and I can't complain at the 1p price for a decent secondhand copy.
