Book Description

14 Nov 2005 Alex Cross

Somebody is murdering Hollywood’s A list

FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation in Disneyland when he gets the call. A well-known actress has been shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterwards, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail recounting the murder in shocking detail, signed Mary Smith.

Her calling card

More killings follow, with emails immediately after. Mary Smith is targeting Hollywood stars and powerbrokers, and she is getting better every time. Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted. People make enemies easily in Hollywood. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more terrifying?

‘You’ve got mail’

Members of the A-list fear they’re Mary’s next target, and the case grows into blockbuster proportions as Cross and the LAPD scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book that keeps you captivated 30 Oct 2005
By joedz
I have read some James Patterson books before but have not read all of them. I also have not read one in a couple of years but this one caught my eye. I'm glad it did. I truly enjoyed it and was always excited when I got a chance in the day to read some more. You knew there was a twist in the story but I wasn't sure what it would be and I was surprised. I definitely recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cross-tastic! 24 Sep 2005
Alex Cross returns and finds his long overdue family holiday disrupted by a "star-struck" killer who is targeting the female stars of LA - as the best of the best Alex is soon called onto the case but will be able to track down the killer?
As always, I found myself unable to put the book down and was drawn into Alex's life. Patterson excels at making Alex a realistic and loveable character and in this novel he successfully continues to illustrate the struggles of juggling a time consuming career with a family.
I highly recommend this and all the Alex Cross novels. Patterson is the master of thrillers.
Get reading - you won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good entertainment, very enjoyable 8 Feb 2006
This is Patterson's latest and is maybe the best Alex Cross story yet. I was absorbed to the last page and the intriguing way the mystery is solved. Cross’s love interest does a lot to further develop his character, which I found refreshing. Mary Mary is well written with short (which could be disruptive to some readers), but focused chapters, and a must read. Also recommended: Bruce Huntly, Fusion (a new and highly recommended find showcasing sound science relevant to current technological and energy concerns); Dean Koontz: Forever Odd; Michael Crichton: State of Fear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patterson is back on track! 8 Oct 2005
The last two Alex Cross books were so disappointing that I almost did not even give this book a try. London Bridges was so poorly contrived and the pace so rapid with the short chapters it felt as if it had been written over a long weekend. Happily with Mary Mary Patterson is back on track! this book is well paced with all the unexpected twists and turns expected in an Alex Cross novel. Hooray! I dont normally recomend other books but you should check out the thriller hit "A Tourist in the Yucatan" WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 4 Nov 2005
Unlike some, I never tire of James Patterson. Whilst I agree some of his novels are not at his usual exceptional high standard, Mary Mary certainly had me gripped. How can people say Alex Cross should be retired when he can star in a stunning story like this. His relationships seem to get more interesting to me, not the other way around. I had to get up at 5 one morning to finish this before I went to work, it is THAT good. I can't wait for the next instalment Mr Patterson............

5.0 out of 5 stars Should it be Denzel Washington ? 28 Jun 2007
I have always wondered what Alex Cross looked like as he always seemed to have a love interest in every book. But when I watched Along came a spider and saw Mr Freeman my heart sunk.

I love Morgan Freeman but I was expecting it to be the fine and talented Mr Denzel Washington.

Mary Mary was a good read, I kept trying to figure out who the killer was in the end i was stunned.

Great Read!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Sad Disappointment. 22 Jun 2007
I absolutely love James Patterson and am getting through his books quite well but i found Mary Mary quite slow and was very disappointed with the ending,i did at one point stop reading his books, especially the Alex Cross ones as in my mind seeing Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross just did not work for me,to me Alex Cross is Strong and Intelligent and Younger, before Morgan Freeman was cast in the films i was imagining someone like Denzil Washington as Alex......BUT......i have started reading again and still get lost in his books,James Patterson is just too good to give up on.
